The Rotary Club of Edina and the Edina Morningside Rotary Club support the Rotary Youth Exchange program. Each year, local Rotary districts and clubs worldwide arrange thousands of international exchanges for high school-aged students. The primary goal of the program is to foster world understanding by way of intercultural exchange.

Rotary Youth Exchange programs are open to students ages 15-19. To qualify, applicants should be above-average students who have demonstrated leadership in their community. Candidates should also possess qualities such as flexibility and a willingness to try new things that will enable them to fully experience life in another country and become excellent cultural ambassadors. All applicants must be sponsored by a local Rotary club and complete a written application and in-person interview.

Rotary provides the exchange student with a monthly allowance, lunches at school and money for other school expenses. In addition, Rotary provides the student with health insurance. In the past, members of the Edina Rotary clubs have provided their exchange student with free dental care. Other small expenses are incurred by the host families.

Our club and EMRC will sponsor three Rotary Youth Exchange students in the 2017–2018 school year. All students will be studying at Edina High School. In addition to our inbound students, the Edina Rotary Clubs plans to send two students abroad!

Each year, the Rotary Club of Edina seeks host families for inbound exchange students, and accepts applications for outbound exchange students. For more information, contact Youth Exchange Committee Chair Terry Stevens
