The Rotary Club of Edina met Wednesday, Aug. 16, for the second meeting of the new Rotary year. Read on for a recap of the meeting. 
 
Membership of the Rotary Club of Edina continues to grow.
 
The Board of Directors at its Aug. 16 meeting approved postings for four prospective members. Jake Johnson, sponsored by Ann Platt, would have a classification of “Banking.” Dave Phillips, sponsored by Sandy Schley, would have a classification of “Law.” Susan Stiles and Dan Stolfa, sponsored by Josh Sprague, would share a membership and the classification of “Financial Services.”

With regret, the Board accepted the resignations of Rob Gadtke and Melinda Inman. Gadtke resigned in July. Inman will resign at the end of August.
 
Directors gave the following reports at the meeting:
 
  • Royce Pavelka and Paul Peterson will represent the club at meetings and events of the Edina Chamber of Commerce.
  • Inbound Youth Exchange students began arriving Aug. 11. This year’s students are Susmita Gautam, Seo-Jun “Sam” Lee and Francisco “Paco” Tebar.
  • A Club Assembly will be held in November.
  • The International Service Committee is supporting a project of the Rotary Club of Maple Grove to establish a sewing center in Uganda near one of the largest refugee camps in the world. The committee will try to collect supplies to be shipped to Uganda in September.
  • The Rotary Foundation Committee is asking members to determine if their businesses provide corporate matches for their gifts.
  • Three members will be honored as Major Donors in the coming months.
It was also reported that Rotary International District 5950’s fall training program, One Rotary Summit, will be held 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Earle Brown Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center. The event is open to all Rotarians and will focus on membership, The Rotary Foundation and public image around the District’s goal of increasing female membership. Rotarians are encouraged to register online at the District website.
The Rotary Club of Edina’s Board of Directors will next meet 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20.
