The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Darrell Thompson as program speaker at Thursday, March 19, meeting at the Edina Country Club. Thompson, who holds the University of Minnesota record for career rushing yards, will speak about Bolder Options, the organization that focuses on healthy youth development. Thompson is president of Bolder Options, located in Minneapolis.
 
Leann Stessman will also give her classification talk at the meeting.
 
The Rotary Club of Edina meets at the Edina Country Club at 12:15 p.m. Thursdays. All are welcome. Cost for lunch and the program is $18. 
 
Darrell Thompson will be the program speaker at the Thursday, March 19, Rotary Club of Edina meeting. He will speak about Bolder Options, the organization that focuses on healthy youth development.
 
Thompson is familiar to Twin Cities football fans as holding University of Minnesota record for career rushing yards. A graduate of John Marshall High School in Rochester, Minnesota, Thompson played football at the U of M, before being selected by the Green Bay Packers in the 1990 NFL Draft. He played for four seasons with the Packers.
 
Thompson is the president of Bolder Options, an innovative organization focused on healthy youth development. Uniting one-on-one mentoring with goal setting, physical activity, tutoring, and leadership opportunities, the program builds confidence, maximizes potential, and encourages healthy life skills in 10-14 year-olds. Thompson is a respected leader in the youth development field having been with Bolder Options for 19 years. As president, Thompson has grown the organization, which now engages over 1,500 kids annually in the St. Paul, Minneapolis, and Rochester metropolitan areas. He leads a professional staff and volunteers as they work to achieve Bolder Options’ mission: Teaching youth to succeed in ALL of life’s races.
 
Bolder Options features a comprehensive mentoring program, wellness activities and leadership opportunities coordinate family, community, school and county resources in a united effort to support youth who are at-risk for dropping out of school or becoming involved in delinquent or unhealthy behaviors.
 
Thompson lives in Minnesota with his wife and four children.
