President Ann Platt opened the meeting with a recap of the Edina Rotary Foundation Fundraiser & Gala held Oct. 1 including a wonderful video clip showing several members doing their best to impersonate the Village People dancing to their song Y.M.C.A.. The video is a clear demonstration that these Rotarians should abandon any thought of a possible dance career and stick to their day jobs.

Matt Boockmeier provided a warm invocation and lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Four-Way Test.

Toni Gerard gave her classification talk. Her primary reason for joining Rotary was she enjoyed how much fun our club has. She was born in Tokyo while her father served our country in the U.S. Air Force. She attended the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas. She works for RBCU, which has three locations with assets of $270 million. Toni lives in the Linden Hills area of Minneapolis with her husband and son. Toni shared that she was turning in her donation to The Rotary Foundation today, making her a Paul Harris Fellow.

Past President Jennifer Bennerotte asked membership to vote on a change to our club's bi-laws regarding past-due accounts. The change was unanimously approved, and Treasurer John Flynn will provide enforcement.

Ann Platt informed us of the many volunteer opportunities that are available to us. See this week's round-up of projects and events in The Barker, as well as the club's website, www.EdinaRotary.org, for more information.

Leann Stessman introduced our speaker, Caryn Sullivan. Caryn is an award-winning author, columnist and inspirational speaker. Her presentation was titled “Living in the Moment, Preparing for the Inevitable.” She provided encouragement in preparing our families that outlive us by discussing and organizing the many unfinished items that we will leave behind. She recommends creating a “Box of Love” that will provide details about our wishes regarding these items. Some of the items she discussed were cremation vs. burial, how our monies will be divided up amongst our children, small business succession, and creating a password file for our family and executors.

Bob Solheim thanked our speaker.
