Five area Rotary clubs are pooling resources to buy new equipment for the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute’s Ski & Snowboard program at Hyland Hills Ski Area in Bloomington and move equipment to a new storage facility there.

More than 1,200 lessons are given each season through Courage Kenney Rehabilitation Institute’s Ski & Snowboard program, the largest sports and recreation program offered by the organization. Lessons will be offered in the area at Hyland Hills in Bloomington and Afton Alps in Hastings. Participants range in age from 6 to over 60, with disabilities including cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, autism and visual impairments. The goal of the Ski & Snowboard program is to bring you and adults with disabilities together with their families, friends and community volunteers to participate in a sport that challenges and motivates them to realize their true potential. Courage Kenny provides all of the necessary adaptive equipment, specialized instruction or training, volunteer support and encouragement to ensure participants have a successful experience.

The Rotary Clubs of Edina, Golden Valley, Lake Minnetonka-Excelsior, Minneapolis City of Lakes, and Plymouth are each contributing dollars toward new equipment for the program. Rotary International District 5950 also provided a grant toward the project, bringing the total financial support to $15,000.

On Saturday, Oct. 10, Rotarians will gather at Hyland Hills, 8800 Chalet Road in Bloomington, to move, clean and store existing ski equipment from its temporary storage spot to the new permanent storage facility on the grounds. Plymouth Rotarians, who are leading the project, will work with Courage Kenny to order the new equipment to ensure its availability at the beginning of the ski season.
