Rotary Club of Edina member Sandra Schley was awarded the Service Above Self Award at the Rotary District 5950 Conference Friday, April 28! Here she is accepting the award from District 5950 Governor Mark Hegstrom at the conference. This award from Rotary International is only given to 150 Rotarians worldwide each year.

Sandy Schley was given a plaque from Rotary International along with a Service above Self pin when she received the award.

What stands out are Sandy's commitments to people and service. Sandy is a former president of the Rotary Club of Edina, and former governor of District 5950. She constantly exhibits a passion for The Rotary Foundation, from active fundraising to assuming leadership positions. This was evident with our recent club Foundation Bowl. Her travels abroad, especially to Africa, have been life changing. Her commitments to leadership development and mentoring at the club, district and zone levels have distinguished her among her peers.

Sandy is also an innovator, unafraid to change models or suggest alternative approaches that might be out of the norm. She is a true Rotary ambassador, often hosting gatherings in her home and coordinating group social and service activities. She is a great friend to many in Rotary—extremely likable and compassionate.

There only 150 of these awards given annually by Rotary International and this is only the eighth one from District 5950. The Rotary Club of Edina has the distinction of this being our second member to achieve this high honor. Tim Murphy was recognized with the Service Above Self award in 2012. We truly are an amazing club!
