The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome their own Tim Murphy as program speaker Thursday, Feb. 11. He will speak about "What Does a Great Rotary Club Look Like?" Whether you are a longtime Rotarian, or a member new to the club, Tim will provide insight about successful Rotary clubs from his travels around Rotary District 5950 and the world. Tim is District 5950 Governor for 2015–2016. He was president of the Rotary Club of Edina in 2006–2007. He joined Rotary in 1995 and has been fully immersed as a humanitarian in this great organization ever since.

Tim and wife, Cindy, are Paul Harris Fellow Major Donors; Tim is also a member of the Paul Harris Society. Murphy has served in most Rotary leadership capacities through his home club, and has served District 5950 as International Project Chair, District Grants Subcommittee Chair (DGSC), District Rotary Foundation Chair/Programs (DRFC), a Group Study Exchange Team Leader, and a member of the District 5950 Foundation Board. He was a presenter at the District 9200 Conference in East Africa, and at several Zone, NC-PETS, and TRF Arch Klumph Award ceremonies.

Tim is a recipient of Rotary International’s Four Avenues of Service Award and, in 2012, received its highest honor: the Service Above Self award.

Thanks to Murphy’s efforts over the past seven years, District 5950’s Safe Water Plus Program has expanded to Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Guatemala and Honduras. He developed an international service project tracking system for four worldwide locations and created a reporting system that monitored Club, District, and TRF contributions (including three huge Global Grants) totaling more than $3 million.

Tim has personally funded nine trips to Africa to learn firsthand how to evaluate the need for water projects and gain support. He has spoken to a majority of the clubs in District 5950 about International Service project opportunities; he has lead trips that introduced many Rotarians and non-Rotarians to water projects in East Africa; and, has personally helped to raise funds for each of the projects, an effort that has helped District 5950 achieve “top ten” recognition for TRF Annual Giving for several years.

Tim’s philosophy of collaboration—an effort that not only promotes collaboration among clubs, but also among districts and non-Rotary individuals and organizations—has impacted millions around the world!
