U of M's Beth Goetz will be speaker at April 7 meeting

Goetz was named Minnesota’s Interim Athletics Director Aug. 7, 2015 by University president Eric Kaler. Goetz had previously served as Deputy Athletics Director and senior woman administrator since she joined the department March 4, 2013. 

 

Goetz has played an integral role as one of the department’s senior administrators and serves as a top executive in overseeing the department’s 25 sports, more than 300 staff members, 725 student-athletes and annual budget of more than $100 million. She assists with the overall department planning and assessment and manages day-to-day athletic operations. 

 

She is a member of the Executive Leadership Team and Senior Leadership Team for athletics and also serves on the Big Ten’s Administrators Council and is a member of the conference’s Sports Management Committee. Goetz is the department liaison with the McNamara Academic Center, compliance office and admissions office. She also serves on both the ACA and FAOCIA committees and the campus Multicultural Outreach Executive Committee. 

 

Goetz oversees student-athlete development, athletic medicine and strength and conditioning. She is also Minnesota’s sport administrator for women’s basketball, baseball, rowing and volleyball. 

 

She came to Minnesota from Butler University, where she was an associate athletic director and the senior woman administrator from August 2008 to February 2013. 

While at Butler, Goetz served as the sport administrator for softball, volleyball and the men's and women's soccer programs. She previously supervised the men's and women's cross country and track and field programs. Goetz also worked closely with both of Butler's basketball programs and was the liaison for the women's team for post-season play.

 

During her time at Butler she was responsible for all aspects of compliance and eligibility, which included monitoring and adhering to all university, conference and NCAA rules. Goetz, who oversaw Title IX reviews and monitored the gender equity plan, was also responsible for all athletic department reports, including the university program evaluation, APR, GSR and EADA. She also worked closely with budget and financial aid matters. 

 

Goetz spent 12 years at the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) prior to her time at Butler. She was an assistant athletic director and senior woman administrator for her final eight years and was the women's soccer team head coach for 11 years.  As an administrator, Goetz assisted with all aspects of compliance at UMSL, including eligibility certification and rules interpretations and education. She oversaw the student service department including academics, CHAMPS/Life Skills, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the equipment room. She also served as the sport administrator for baseball, softball and men’s and women’s golf. Goetz was an active participant on several conference and national committees and chaired the Division II Women's Soccer Committee.

 

Goetz, who also spent one season as an assistant with the women's soccer program, was an accomplished head coach. She was only the second coach in program history and led UMSL to eight winning seasons, a 120-90-10 overall record and was named the Great Lakes Valley Women's Soccer Coach of the Year in 2000. 

Goetz, who was inducted into the UMSL Sports Hall of Fame in 2014, led UMSL to 10 straight Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournaments, including an appearance in the 2007 championship game. From 2000 to 2003, Goetz directed UMSL to the GLVC Tournament semifinals and twice appeared in the championship game. Under Goetz, UMSL had 26 players earn all-conference recognition, including 10 players who were first team selections. 

 

Goetz was an accomplished collegiate soccer player and earned All-America recognition at Brevard College in North Carolina before heading to Clemson. She would lead the Tigers to a combined 29-11-1 record over the next two years. 

 

Goetz earned an Associate of Arts degree from Brevard in 1994 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Clemson in 1996. She received her Master in Education degree from UMSL in 2000.
