A Message from our Ambassadorial Scholar

From: Angie Cousins [mailto:angiecousins@gmail.com]

Subject: Greetings from NZ!

Hello Ellen, Sandy & Bill -

Hope this e-mail finds you well! I am just starting my fourth week of class.
Time is going very fast. I need to remember to take it all in, because it
will be over before I know it. This weekend was the Orientation for all
inbound scholars to New Zealand. There are 16 in total. There were several
from the US, two from Japan, one from Taiwan, Mexico, and France.
Great people. We watched the speech given by the incoming Rotary International
President, Dong Kurn Lee. I got chills from the presentation and his focus
on children-very powerful. I completed my 3rd speech this week- my topic is
very political here as they have had a rough summer with some horrific
juvenile crime. The media does a good job here, as in the states, with
instilling fear! It is an election year here as well, and the opposing
parties have youth crime as a platform issue, debating what to do about it.
It makes for very interesting discussions. To compliment my academics I am
seeking out folks that work as practitioners in my field. I think that will
be equally beneficial and the rotary is very helpful with that.

The Hutt City Club just finished their biggest biannual fundraiser - The
Shapeshifter. They sold over $100,000NZ of sculpture
and 5,700($5.00NZ entrance fee) people attended the event during the 3
week exhibit. The proceeds are distributed to local Hutt City Charities
which serve The Arts, The Terminally Ill, and Youth-it was wonderful to be a
part of it.

Please greet the club members for me.

Cheers!

Angie Cousins

We are on TV!

noon Mondays, 7 p.m. Tuesday and 5 p.m. Saturdays.

Rotaract
Rotaract is a great way to get potential Rotarians (age 18-30) involved with Rotary early in their careers and is a great way
to grow the Rotary family. If you or your members have friends, coworkers or relatives that you think would be good candidates
for Rotaract based on the description of our club below, please extend our invitation to them to join us for this happy hour.
If you're interested in learning more about the club yourself, we welcome you to attend a meeting or to contact me -
Brian Edquist, President, Minneapolis Rotaract Club (bedquist@sjm.com or 651-491-7138. Thanks for your support!

Look for us in the Choir Loft!

The Minneapolis Rotaract Club is for young professionals aged 18 to 30. Our club focuses on international and community
service projects, professional and leadership development, and fellowship through social events and volunteer projects
that build friendships that last. In the last year our club has raked leaves for the elderly, remodeled a Teen Room at
the Brian Coyle Center, cooked breakfast for young single mothers and their children at the Jeremiah Program, and
volunteered at the Winter Carnival. Whether it is through our international or local service projects which connect
us with Rotaractors and Rotarians from around the world or an opportunity to study abroad through a Rotary Foundation
scholarship, you will be sure to find something that is suited to you.

About the MBEA

The Minnesota Business Ethics Award (MBEA) recognizes businesses that have exemplified and promoted ethical conduct for the benefit of the workplace, the marketplace, the community and the environment.

The award was established in 1999 to raise the standards of business ethics in Minnesota and to honor those companies that exhibit the highest standards.  Since that time, twenty companies—with employee populations ranging from less than 20 to more than 100,000—have been recognized for their ethical   excellence.

Rotary Club of Edina: All quarterly statements to include our monthly dues and meal costs.

Edina Rotary Foundation: All tax-deductible contributions to our own Club’s foundation. This is primarily during and for our annual fundraiser.

Rotary International Foundation: All Paul Harris contributions or tax-deductible contributions made throughout the year to RI.These are not deposited into the Edina Rotary Foundation but go directly to RI and are credited to each of our respective Paul Harris accounts.

Meeting Make-Ups

Be sure to report your make-ups as soon as possible after attending another meeting and no later than the 5th of the following month. Make-ups for each month are reported to our District and RI following the 5th. If your make-ups come in later than the 5th, they will be credited to the month in which they are received. In addition, members are given credit on their invoice for any make-ups. Therefore, timely reporting allows the Club Administrator to include these make-ups on the next invoice. Make-ups can be mailed to Rotary Club of Edina, 4801 W. 50th St., Edina, MN  55424 or e-mailed to Club Administrator Annie Kennedy at clubadmin@edinarotary.org.

(many clubs do not have this printed on their make-up cards),
(3) date of make-up

(4) date of missed meeting to apply make-up.
