The annual Leadership Ethics Seminar was held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Church of St. Patrick in Edina. Rotarians and students from Edina High School gathered to discuss ethical dilemmas and solutions in small and large groups. Leading the event this year were Rotarians Joe Hayes, John Buttolph and Sutton McGraw. The seminar, formerly known as Do the Right Thing, was started by longtime Rotarian Jerry Potter.
Last week, one of our Youth Exchange students, Paco Tebar Gomez, was visited by his mom and siblings. Paco's host family, Tom and Catherine Gump, hosted Paco's family at their home in Edina. Tom Gump is a member of the Edina Morningside Rotary Club. One of the highlights of their visit was seeing Paco play in an Edina High School soccer game! The Gumps also planned a memorial for Paco's father during the visit. Thank you to the Gumps for their kindness and hospitality to Paco and his family during their time of need, and to all the Rotarians who attended the memorial and/or have contributed to the fund to help with Paco's family's travel expenses.
Paco and the EHS soccer team will be playing in the first round of the 2AA section tournament this Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Edina Community Center. Come out and support Paco and the team! The schedule for the tournament is below.
Youth Exchange Students Sam Lee and Susmita Gautam participated in Edina High School's Homecoming Parade Sept. 28. Past District Governor Tim Murphy was their chauffeur.
Rotary Camp Enterprise is right around the corner! Sam Thompson and his team are busily getting all the details worked out for the 120 high school students who will attend the three-day camp. You can help by volunteering to be a mentor! We are still looking for mentors for this year's camp, Thursday–Saturday, Nov. 2–4. To find out more or to volunteer, contact Sam.
If you recently sent an RSVP indicating you were not able to attend the Sept. 23 Fundraiser & Gala, and if you are the person who indicated you were enclosing a $500 contribution to the Edina Rotary Foundation, please contact Jennifer Garske because we did not find a check in the envelope! There was no return address provided, so we don’t know who to follow up with. If you think this might be you, please contact Jennifer at jgarske@EdinaRotary.org or 612-875-3019.
It is time again to plan the Rotary Club of Edina Fall Fireside Chats! The Social Committee has four gatherings planned for late October:
• Josh Sprague's home, Tuesday, Oct. 24, 4720 70th St. W., Edina. Go here to register.
• Renee Harberts's home, Wednesday, Oct. 25, 6125 Blake Ridge Road, Edina. Go here to register.
• Paul Mooty's home, Thursday, Oct. 26, 5320 Kelsey Terrace, Edina. Go here to register.
• Gordy Lewis's home, Friday, Oct. 27, 6824 Chapel Lane, Edina. Go here to register.
All Fireside Chats are from 7 to 9 p.m. Members are encouraged to come to all the Fireside Chats, or pick the one that best works with their schedule. Please register for any gathering you will attend to allow for the hosts to plan.
The Fireside Chats are very informal social exchanges for the members to enjoy and learn about Rotary and to get to know one another. The hosts are asked only to encourage discussion and a good time for all. It is a chance to meet our new members or reconnect with old friends! Members are encouraged to come to all the Fireside Chats, or pick the one that best works with their schedule.
New members—you are especially encouraged to attend one or all of the Fireside Chats! It is a great way to get to know your fellow Rotarians in a casual atmosphere. Let us know if you have questions.
For more information, contact the host or Brad Hepp at heppbrad@gmail.com.
