Joe Hayes made an announcement concerning the upcoming Leadership Ethics Seminar, or "Do The Right Thing." The event is scheduled for Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Joe is seeking volunteers to join the planning committee and to participate in the event.

Don Hutchison announced that the club is planning a fun-filled day at the new St. Paul Saints Stadium (CHS Field). The event will be Sunday, Aug. 14, for a game between the Saints and the visiting Sioux Falls Canaries and a picnic before the game. Members are encouraged to bring guests. Contact Don about tickets.

Bradley Hepp introduced our speaker—Rhoda Olson. Ms. Olson is the Chief Executive Officer of Great Clips. Ms. Olson described the struggles and triumphs in her life and in the business of Great Clips. Great Clips is coming up on 4,000 salons across the United States and has experienced 48 quarters of continuous steady growth!

She introduced her husband, three sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren to our membership. She spoke about the nature of Great Clips as a family-owned business and described added elements of emotion, strength and stress coming from the family-owned business.
Ms. Olson spoke about the power of personal vision and identified her personal vision as including:
  • Being a healthy role model.
  • Being an impactful and courageous leader.
  • Providing every “stakeholder” an opportunity for financial success.
  • Showing gratitude and humility.
  • Learning and growing.
Ms. Olson also shared with us the action-orientated mission statements that have helped Great Clips succeed: “We are kind, we keep it simple, we focus on execution, we exceed expectations and we have fun.”

Following the presentation and questions from the audience, Jim Ryman thanked our speaker.

Our meeting concluded with the following quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “A woman is like a tea bag; you never know how strong she is until she is in hot water.”

The Rotary Club of Edina will honor members that had Perfect Attendance in the 2015–2016 Rotary year at the July 28 meeting. A record number of Rotarians attended all or most meetings of the club, and did make ups throughout the year at committee meetings, Rotary happy hour or other Rotary activities to achieve the Perfect Attendance Award. Congratulations to everyone for their dedication to Rotary!

Rotarian Shelly Loberg will give her classification talk at the meeting.
