The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Joe Cavanaugh as program speaker at the Thursday, March 22, meeting. Cavanaugh is a nationally known speaker with 30 years of experience working with young people and educators. He is the founder of Youth Frontiers, Inc., a Minnesota-based nonprofit organization that partners with schools to build positive school communities where students thrive socially, emotionally and academically.

You may have missed the chance to take part in the March Madness bracket competition for Rotary Club of Edina members, but you can still attend the gathering to announce the winners. There will be a party at Poor Richard's Commonhouse in Bloomington for the NCAA National Championship game Monday, April 2. We will crown our bracket winner that night! It is $15 to attend the party, which will feature appetizers and a cash bar.

WHAT:Andy & Elmers Apple Dumpling Adventure Literacy Project WHEN: 2 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12 WHERE: Cornelia Elementary School, Edina. The committee hopes to read at other schools in the spring. WHO: Volunteers from the club needed to read the book, Andy & Elmers Apple Dumpling Adventure to students, discuss ethics with them and hand out apples. The book teaches children about the Rotary Four-Way Test.

The Area 3 Vocational Ethics Day is planned for 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at the Edina Country Club. The speaker at this year's event is Nancy M. Dahl. She will speak about "My Decisions Matter." She is a speaker on leadership, leading change, innovation and professional development across the nation for a wide range of business and educational audiences. Dahl released a book in 2017, "Grounded: Leading Your Life with Intention."

WHAT: Arbor Day celebration with a ceremonial planting of trees WHEN: 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 27 WHERE: Countryside Elementary School, Edina WHO: All Rotarians are encouraged to attend the brief ceremony. INFO: Rotary International President Ian Riseley challenged Rotary Clubs around the world to plant trees in honor of its members this year. To meet Risely’s goal, the Rotary Club of Edina and Rotary International District 5950 are providing funding to Edina Public Schools to plant 39 trees of 18 varieties on the grounds of several schools. Six trees will be planted at Countryside Elementary School. The Rotary Club of Edina will also provide 600 Scotch Pine, White Pine, Black Hills Spruce and Meyer Spruce seedings to Countryside Elementary students on Arbor Day.

WHAT: Opioid Awareness Workshop, sponsored by our club, District 5950 and five other Rotary Clubs WHEN: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 (takes the place of our regular meeting). Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. WHERE: Edina Country Club WHO: All Rotarians are encouraged to attend. Our club members should register here. Rotarians from the sponsoring clubs of Bloomington, Buffalo, Eden Prairie Noon, North Minneapolis and Rogers are also invited. After registration ends for our club and the other sponsoring clubs, it will open to all area Rotary Clubs. If there is still room, the general public will be invited. COST: Same as a regular meeting for our members: $20 at the door for Senior Active and Honorary members, regular members will already have been billed for the meeting on their quarterly invoice. Rotarians from other clubs will sign up and pay the $20 through their home club. Anyone from the public attending will pay $20 at the door. INFO: The workshop will feature representatives from the Steve Rummler Hope Network, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, TRIA, Hennepin County Sheriff's Department and Verde Technologies sharing information and answering questions about the opioid epidemic. Join us Monday, May 21, at the Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis for the 2018 District 5950 Conference—a year-end celebration of all the incredible work our District 5950 Rotarians have done this Rotary year. The event is split into three "acts," and members can sign up for all three acts, or pick and choose what works best.
All Rotarians are encouraged to attend the District Conference. The club will reimburse regular members for the cost of one session (or "Act") at the conference, up to $50.Sign up today on the District website. Then send an email to Club Administrator Jennifer Garske that you are signed up. You will be credited for the reimbursement amount on your next quarterly invoice (up to $50 per member, depending on the session(s) you registered for). The Rotary Clubs of Edina, Bloomington and Maple Grove, along with Rotary International District 5950, the Mary Kay Ash Foundation and I Heart Radio, will purchase a van for Cornerstone Advocacy Services.
Cornerstone was founded in 1983 to serve victims of domestic violence in south Hennepin County. The Bloomington-based agency has earned a reputation for innovative and effective programs for victims of domestic violence, sexual violence, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The program speakers at the March 15 Rotary Club of Edina meeting were Nancy Killilea, founder of Pass Your Parka, and Lesley A. Chester, Chief Advancement Officer at House of Charity.
Former Interact Club of Edina President Elizabeth Anderson talked to members about how Rotary has impacted her life, even after graduating last year from Edina High School and heading to college.
The Rotary Foundation Director for our club, David Clynes, handed out pins to members who were honored for their Paul Harris Fellow donations. And Social Director Renee Harberts shared what her committee has planned for the rest of the Rotary year, as well as recapping the events already enjoyed.
