The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Bill Neuendorf as the program speaker at the Thursday, April 26, meeting. Neuendorf is the Economic Development Manager for the City of Edina. He will talk about the development in the 50th and France area of Edina.

WHAT: Arbor Day celebration with a ceremonial planting of trees WHEN: 1:45 p.m. this Friday, April 27 (NOTE TIME CHANGE) WHERE: Countryside Elementary School, Edina WHO: All Rotarians are encouraged to attend the brief ceremony. Go here to register. INFO: Rotary International President Ian Riseley challenged Rotary Clubs around the world to plant trees in honor of its members this year. To meet Risely’s goal, the Rotary Club of Edina and Rotary International District 5950 are providing funding to Edina Public Schools to plant 39 trees of 18 varieties on the grounds of several schools. Six trees will be planted at Countryside Elementary School. The Rotary Club of Edina will also provide 600 Scotch Pine, White Pine, Black Hills Spruce and Meyer Spruce seedings to Countryside Elementary students on Arbor Day.

WHAT: Opioid Awareness Workshop, sponsored by our club, District 5950 and five other Rotary Clubs WHEN: 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3 (takes the place of our regular meeting). Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. WHERE: Edina Country Club WHO: All Rotarians are encouraged to attend. Rotarians from the sponsoring clubs of Bloomington, Buffalo, Eden Prairie Noon, North Minneapolis and Rogers, as well as other area Rotary clubs, are also invited. The general public can also register via our website. The deadline for everyone to register is this week, Friday, April 27. All registrations are final after this date. COST: Same as a regular meeting for our members: $20 at the door for Senior Active and Honorary members, regular members will already have been billed for the meeting on their quarterly invoice. Rotarians from other clubs will sign up and pay the $20 through their home club. Anyone from the public attending will pay $20 at the door. INFO: The workshop will feature representatives from the Steve Rummler Hope Network, the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, TRIA, Hennepin County Sheriff's Department and Verde Technologies sharing information and answering questions about the opioid epidemic. The next Rotary Vocational Development Group will be next Wednesday, May 2.
Once a month, Edina Rotarians have a chance to connect with other club members, and any guests, at the happy hour. This Rotary event is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Mezz at the Lunds & Byerly's in Edina. The meeting will feature a brief presentation from a featured Rotarian, plus time for introductions, networking and questions. The featured speaker at the May 2 gathering will be Kelley Burnett. The Rotary Club of Edina and EMRC collaborate on this event.
It takes the assistance of almost 200 volunteers to make Moving Day Twin Cities possible. The Parkinson’s Foundation is looking for individuals or groups who are available Saturday, May 5, to join us in Plymouth at Hilde Park and volunteer to support this Walk for Parkinson's Disease.
Volunteer roles include assisting with set up, registration, greeting guests, cheering on the crowd during the walk and more! There are various shifts available, for varying lengths of time throughout the morning.

Join us Monday, May 21, at the Guthrie Theater in downtown Minneapolis for the 2018 District 5950 Conference—a year-end celebration of all the incredible work our District 5950 Rotarians have done this Rotary year. The event is split into three "acts," and members can sign up for all three acts, or pick and choose what works best.
All Rotarians are encouraged to attend the District Conference. The club will reimburse regular members for the cost of one session (or "Act") at the conference, up to $50.Sign up today on the District website. Then send an email to Club Administrator Jennifer Garske that you are signed up. You will be credited for the reimbursement amount on your next quarterly invoice (up to $50 per member, depending on the session(s) you registered for). Please let Jen Garske or President San Asato know if you have questions. Early bird pricing has ended, but you can still sign up to attend. You won't want to miss this Rotary-tacular event!

Mark your calendars! It is time for the spring Fireside Chats! We have four events scheduled for Rotarians to attend May 22 through May 25.
Held each spring and fall, the Fireside Chats are very informal social exchanges for members to enjoy and learn about Rotary and to get to know one another. It is a chance to meet our new members or reconnect with old friends!

It was the annual Vocational Ethics Day meeting last Thursday, April 26. All Area 3 Rotary clubs—Bloomington, Eden Prairie AM, Eden Prairie Noon, Edina, Edina Morningside, Richfield and South Metro Minneapolis Evenings—gathered at the Edina Country Club to hear keynote speaker Nancy Dahl. Students from area high schools were also invited to attend.
Rotarians, students and guests heard from Dahl about "My Decisions Matter," and also heard from Sam Thompson about Camp Enterprise, EMRC member Tom Gump about the District Conference, and Youth Exchange student Paco Tebar-Gomez about the Rotary Youth Exchange program.
Dan Hallberg, along with a committee of members from Area 3 clubs, organize the meeting each year.
