The Rotary Club of Edina will have a special program for the Thursday, Dec. 7, meeting. Rotarians Tim Murphy and Sandy Schley will present “A World, A Way; The Story of Moses.” They will tell the story of how a 3 year-old Kenyan boy's life is changed forever after meeting Past District Governor Schley in the Mathare Valley slum of Nairobi Kenya in 2007. Tim and Sandy will share what led up his trip to the United States for eye surgery and extensive dental work in 2010. Since then, the continued generosity of Rotarians in the Twin Cities is providing his education and a life outside the slums back in Kenya.
Special Guests will be Moses Mwaura, his uncle David Waithaka and partner Subira.
Rotarian Susan Stiles will give her classification talk at the meeting.
The next Rotary Vocational Development Group is tomorrow, Thursday, Dec. 7. Note that the gathering will be held on Thursday instead of the usual Wednesday.
Once a month, Edina Rotarians have a chance to connect with other club members, and any guests, at the happy hour. This Rotary event is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Mezz at the Lunds & Byerly's in Edina. The meeting will feature a brief presentation from a featured Rotarian, plus time for introductions, networking and questions. The speaker for the Thursday, Dec. 7, gathering will be Fred Sylvester, a longtime Rotarian but newer member of the Rotary Club of Edina. The Rotary Club of Edina and EMRC collaborate on this event.
The Rotary Club of Edina is once again collecting holiday gifts for families in need in our community. Rotarian Jean Morrison is spearheading the Holiday Giving Program, and asks that members bring UNWRAPPED gifts and gift cards for children of any age (infant all the way through teens) as well as gifts for moms, dads, and families, to the Edina Country Club in December. This year, gift cards were also requested for teen gifts. The donations can be dropped off at the Rotary meetings Dec. 7 or 14, or at the Holiday Party on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Cash or check donations are also welcome. Jean will take the funds donated and buy gift cards or other gifts to be donated as well. This year, the organizations benefiting from the Edina Rotary Holiday Giving Program will be:
• Cornerstone—every year for the holidays, Cornerstone hosts the Holiday Shop for the families they serve. The Holiday Shop gives children from abusive homes the opportunity to shop for gifts for their parents and siblings. Cornerstone is a nonprofit agency that serves adults and children who have been impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence and/or human trafficking. Cornerstone believes that together, we can ease the stress of the season and make the holidays brighter for families who are rebuilding their lives.
• 66 West—is 39 apartment homes for youth who have experienced homelessness. Located in Edina, the apartments opened in May 2017. The Community Room at 66 West was the 2016–2017 Signature Project for the Edina Rotary Foundation. 66 West was a project of Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative, partnering with the City of Edina, Hennepin County and several local organizations.
If you have questions about the program, or need gift ideas for children or families, contact Jean Morrison at jean@jeanmorrisonhr.com.

On behalf of the patients, staff and volunteers of Little Hospice, "thank you" for the incredible generosity, once again, of the Rotary Club of Edina and its members. Your donation of three turkeys along with all the fixings and canned goods and desserts and Faribault Woolen Mill blankets are deeply appreciated...and have been put to excellent use! We had a full complement of patients on Thanksgiving Day, and an extraordinary number of family that day and still had leftovers for sandwiches later on. In all, we served 61 patients and family members/friends.
