Edina, Minn., November 8, 2011 - Nearly 100 High School Students Attend Camp Enterprise Nearly 100 high school students attended Camp Enterprise Minnesota, a unique opportunity to learn about leadership, business and the free enterprise system. Edina, Minn., October 5, 2011 - The City of Edina’s Communications & Marketing Department received the “Slumberland Making a Difference Award” during the National Television Academy of Arts & Sciences’ Upper Midwest Emmys Gala Saturday, Sept. 24. EDINA 16 was selected for the award for its story “The Moses Miracle.” In the spring of 2010, the Rotary Club of Edina brought 6-year-old cross-eyed Moses Mwaura from the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, to Edina where he underwent surgery to correct his eyes and damaged teeth. EDINA 16 followed the process and produced a documentary for its talk show “In Edina.” Learn more here ...

January 25, 2011: Rotary Club Seeks Applications for Ambassadorial Scholarships The Rotary Clubs of Edina and Edina Morningside are seeking applicants for Ambassadorial Scholarship to study abroad in the 2012-2013 academic year. The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarship program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries and to support academic study. Jan. 12, 2011: Books donated in honor of late Rotarian, Thornton ("T. P.") Anderson

The Edina Rotary Foundation and Anderson family donated a total of $1,500 for the books. At a special dedication Nov. 29, Media Specialist Tracy Pearson shared her selections with the fifth-graders, Rotarians and family members. French and English books are part of the new collection, as are several bestsellers. About 130 books were purchased as part of the memorial. More details…

Jan. 6, 2011: Thanks to the efforts of the Rotary Club of Edina, Moses Mwaura began school in Nairobi, Kenya, on Wednesday, Jan. 5

Last spring, the Rotary Club of Edina brought Moses to Minnesota from Africa to have his crossed eyes surgically corrected and to repair his damaged teeth. Each year, the Rotary Club of Edina raises money at a fall fundraiser to support its projects and award grants. More than $70,000 was raised in October for the Club’s service projects and local and international grants. An additional $30,000 was raised to fund the next 12 years of Moses’ education. December 30, 2010 Rotary Club of Edina awards nearly $4,000 in grants

The Rotary Club of Edina awarded two grants during the last month of 2010. Friends of H.O.M.E. received $298 for two LCD monitors for the H.O.M.E. office in south Bloomington, which offers eligible seniors services such as housekeeping, yard maintenance and repairs, allowing them to remain in their homes. Cornerstone Advocacy Services was given $3,500 to use toward replacing furniture in its residential shelter. More details…

EHS juniors attend Camp RYLA
Edina High School Juniors Dolan and Hailey Lee recently represented the Rotary Club of Edina at Camp RYLA. Similar to Camp Enterprise, Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) strengthens leadership skills and capabilities of high school students through five days of physical, mental, emotional, and intellectual challenges through problem solving, teamwork and interaction with other outstanding students and volunteer counselors and presenters. A woman endorsed by the Rotary Club of Edina and the Edina Morningside Rotary Club has been selected by District 5950 for an 2010-2011 Ambassadorial Scholarship. Amy Heinzerling was selected earlier this month for one of three Ambassadorial Scholarships. More details…

The Edina Rotary Foundation at its meeting April 16, 2009, awarded a $1,500 grant to Joyce Uptown Food Shelf to use toward the construction of a new garage on the property used to store dry and paper goods; $500 to Fairview Southdale Hospital for toys and equipment for pediatric occupational, physical and speech therapies; $1,320 to the Korean Service Center to purchase four pressure cookers to be used as part of the organization’s dining program, used primarily by those in assisted living and caregiver support programs.; and $2,500 to Steiger International to purchase a van, contingent on the ministry securing the rest of the funds for the vehicle before July 1, 2009.

Edina High School students Ameer Kian and Eric Sannerud will represent the Rotary Club of Edina May 7-9 at the Model UN held in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Model UN is organized and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The objectives of Model UN are to give a representative group of high school students first-hand experience in the workings of the United Nations; to establish an understanding and acceptance of the responsibility of the individual citizen for the success of the United Nations; and to make the United Nations a better understood instrument for world peace.

Last year, the Rotary Club of Edina contributed $98,837 to The Rotary Foundation, which ranked eighth in the world out of more than 30,000 clubs. Additionally, the Club ranked second in the world in per member giving for clubs with 150 members or more.
