Vocational Day - Peters Billiards Distribution Center on May 30

The Rotary Club of Edina will hold a Vocational Day meeting Thursday, May 30, at Peters Billiards-Distribution Center (not the store), 7685 Parklawn Avenue, Edina, MN 55435. Check in will be at the tour location. The meeting and tour will begin at 11:45 a.m., and end promptly at 1:30 p.m. Registration closed Tuesday, May 28 for lunch and beverages. Please contact Marty Kupper if you will be attending, missed the registration deadline and need a lunch.

Take a step back in time! View one of the country's largest collections of antique pool tables in the country. Learn about the history and restoration process of the tables. In addition, tour the Edina facility that supports a large specialty retail store, and learn about it's innerworkings.

Our club holds vocational meetings annually to highlight a vocation and/or business in our community. Peters Billiards is managed by Rotarian Steve Slyce .

Edina Rotaract Meeting, Thurs., May 30

Rotaract clubs consist of young professionals between the ages of 18 and 30 to take action in their communities, develop their leadership and professional skills, and have fun. Our next meeting will be held at 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thurs., May 30 at The Mezz, 7171 France Ave S, Edina 55435

This meeting will feature a preview session of Dale Carnegie led by Bridget Hallstrom, Dale Carnegie strategic account executive, who will lead an interactive session where you will learn to:

Learn a process to build relationships and improve memory skills
Review the 5 Drivers of Success
Understand the Dale Carnegie Course and how it could impact you

Sat., June 15 Homeless Breakfast Service

He brought to our club his message of homelessness and his efforts to build relationships and bring safety to those in need. MPD Homeless Liason, Sgt. Grant Snyder's words and actions had a profound impact on many of our members. In a downtown Minneapolis open lot, we will help the Minneapolis Police Department and Sgt. Snyder prepare a hot breakfast, serve roughly 100 homeless individuals and families then clean up on a Saturday morning. The date and time is Saturday, June 15, 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at 1010 Currie St. (Downtown Salvation Army Shelter). Click here to sign up and volunteer today. Rotary Club of Edina Awards EHS Scholarships

The Rotary Club of Edina presented two $1,250 scholarships to deserving students at Edina High School. We present scholarships to graduating Edina seniors who exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and have participated in Rotary programs such as Camp Enterprise, Camp RYLA, fall ethics seminar, Vocational Ethics Day, youth exchange or the Interact Club of Edina. This year’s scholarships were presented to Samantha Bevers and Sarah Jane Koessel.

Bevers currently serves as President of the Interact Club of Edina. She participated in cross-country skiing, speech, debate, concert choir, LINK Crew and ASL Club. She is a National Merit-Commended Student and an Edina Scholar who plans to attend Wellesley College and study Political Science.

Koessel attended Camp RYLA in 2018, where she received a youth leadership award. She was a LINK Crew Leader, peer tutor and participant in Fairview Southdale Hospital’s Medical Explorers program. Koessel is an Edina Scholar who plans to attend Mount Holyoke College to pursue a biology or neuroscience major.

The scholarships were presented May 24 as part of the Edina High School Local Scholarship Breakfast at Church of St. Patrick. There, 41 scholarships were presented to more than 90 recipients. In all, nearly $500,000 in scholarships was presented.

Knowing that today’s meeting was packed with information, presentations and honors; President John Flynn rang the bell right at 12:30 PM. After everyone was seated and the tasty meal and conversation was underway, the video screen prompted two “Why I love Rotary” segments by Susan Johnson and Heather Hansen. We could hear Susan, but the onscreen portion was having some technical issues. Maybe we will see that next week. Heather certainly is an active Rotarian, and indicated that she was introduced to Rotary by her father, has served on the Board and is passionate about all the youth service programs that Rotary does. Our club is well represented by Susan and Heather.
