Thank you for your support of VEAP. Your donation of toys and financial gifts was put to work right away to help low-income individuals and families in our area.
On Dec. 16, VEAP wrapped up another very successful year for the Holiday Toy Program. Hundreds of volunteer hours were spent collecting, sorting and stocking gifts, as well as helping parents shop for just the right gift for their child. In the end, gifts for more than 3,500 local children were selected by parents. They chose from Barbies and Legos, stuffed animals, sleds, games, hand knit hats and much more, all provided by generous donors such as your club.
The gratitude expressed during the past week by the parents is humbling with many touching stories. One mother, who was shopping for her two young sons, came across two sleds. She was instantly giddy and exclaimed, "This is just what they wanted! And now I can give it to them!" Another mother had tears running down her face as she stopped and thanked a group of volunteers. "You have no idea how much you help me every time I come here. It means so much."

Former FBI agent Eileen Rice will be the program speaker at the first Rotary Club of Edina meeting of the New Year, this Thursday, Jan. 5. Rice, now an investigator with WayPoint Inc., will speak about "Causes of Wrongful Convictions," and her work with the Innocence Project. She sits on the board of directors of the Innocence Project of Minnesota, a non-profit organization which seeks to free the wrongfully convicted..jpg){kind=logo}
The next Rotary Vocational Development Group will be tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 4. The speaker at the meeting will be Dick Crockett of the Edina Community Foundation. He is a member of the Edina Morningside Rotary Club. 
Edina Rotarians, family and friends rang the bell at the Salvation Army red kettle at Jerry's Foods in Edina from Dec. 19 through 23. Dan Hallberg once again chaired the project for our club with the help of Wayne Harmon, and has shared the final results the bell ringers raised. Our kettles gathered a total of $7,068 during the five days, including $2
,631 on "Ring for Joel Day" Wednesday, Dec 21. Our club honored longtime Rotarian Joel Jennings by ringing in his name, and all the donations received in the red kettle that day were matched.
