As the leaves show their glorious autumn colors and the air turns crisp, it is time for Edina Rotarians to gather for the annual Fall Fireside Chats.

Fireside Chats are very informal social exchanges hosted by members and usually held at their private home on an early evening weekday. It's a nice way for members to enjoy and learn about Rotary and to get to know one another. Members are welcomed to attend all the Fireside Chats or pick the ones that work best with their schedule. Registration is now open, please click on the dates you'd like to register.

Winter Clothing Drive - October 28

We are doing a winter clothing drive in conjunction with the Edina Morningside Rotary Club at the joint meeting on October 28th. The Involve MN van will arrive at 11:45 am and our goal is to stuff it full of winter clothes. Your friends and family are welcome to participate.

Print the flyer HERE, stick it to your refrigerator and add it to your calendar. Items accepted are:

Mens, womens, childrens winter and lightweight coats. New or clean used coats accepted.

Mens, womens, childrens socks, gloves, hats, mittens and boots.

Nov 24 - Thanksgiving Basket Registration Open
On Wednesday, November 24, members of the Rotary Club of Edina, along with members of the Edina Morningside Rotary Club, will prepare and deliver Thanksgiving meals to families in need throughout the Twin Cities region. A roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberries, potatoes and gravy along with vegetables, oranges, even a delicious pie, make their way to area homes via active Rotarians and their families. With a side of warm knit mittens to help with the coming winter, these Thanksgiving Baskets bring some brightness and joy into the holiday season. 
 
There will be a call for canned goods, the opening of registration for both clubs to join together for a family luncheon and to organize their assembly teams and socialize. Registration for the luncheon and assembly times can be found HERE. Contack Tom Cook with any event day questions or Becci Michalski with any registration requests or issues.
Grant Applications Being Accepted
The Edina Rotary Foundation is now accepting grant applications for its 2021-2022 annual awards. Our local grants committee accepts applications for grants of between $1,000-$10,000 with awards being granted in the spring. We are currently actively seeking applications for non-profit organization, municipality or school projects. These projects should primarily take place in Edina, Minneapolis, Hopkins, Minnetonka, Richfield, Bloomington, Eden Prairie or St. Louis Park and are supported by an Edina Rotary Club member. Nov. 3 REGISTRATION DEADLINE ** Nov 11 Veterans Day Luncheon

REGISTRATION DEADLINE NOV. 3 -- REGISTER HERE TODAY.

Club members must register themselves and their guest(s) by midnight November 3.

The annual Area 3 Rotary Veterans Luncheon is set for Thursday, Nov. 11, at Edina Country Club. Doors open and registration begins at 11 a.m. with live music and the luncheon beginning at 11:15 and concluding at 1:15 p.m.

Our club is one of seven southwest metro Rotary clubs in District 5950 to sponsor this special Veterans Day Luncheon to honor those who have served our country. 

Tom Hauser, KSTP, will be the emcee at the event. The featured speaker at the luncheon is Minnesota National Guard Sergeant First Class Joshua R. Guyse. 

Cost for Area 3 Rotary club members and their guests will be $26 per person. Rotary members of  Minnesota Veterans, Bloomington, Eden Prairie AM, Eden Prairie Noon, Edina-Morningside, Richfield, South Minneapolis Metro and the Twin Cities Rotary EcoClub should register with their club by Wednesday, Nov. 3. Club representatives should report their club registered guest list and total to Edina Rotary Club President Elect, Joe Hayes, by Noon, Thursday, Nov. 4.

Each Edina Noon Rotarian may invite one veteran as a guest of our club. Senior Active and Honorary Rotarians who are veterans may attend free of charge. Registration deadline for Edina Noon members and their guest is Wednesday, Nov. 3. Register HERE. Cost for more than one veteran guest per member will be $26 per guest. Guest payments can be made at the door or charged on members' next quarterly invoice. The Veterans Luncheon will take the place of our club's regular meeting that week and there is no additional charge for Rotary Club of Edina members to attend. Senior Active or Honorary members who are not veterans will be charged $20.

Nov. 4 Speaker: Dick Bremer, MN Twins Broadcaster
2021 marked Dick Bremer’s 38th season as a broadcaster for the Twins. The Minnesota native graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1978. Following his graduation he worked for three years in Cedar Rapids, IA as a sportscaster for WMT-Radio and TV (now KGAN-TV). While there, he began his play-by-play career doing University of Iowa basketball for two years. For additional Dick Bremer details click "Read More". 
 
Join us as we listen to Dick's story and welcome prospective members to our Rotary tables. Our meeting are held at the Edina Country Club with doors opening at 12:15 p.m. Choice of a hot lunch or salad is included with the program fee of $20, first time visitors interested in finding out more about Rotary lunch is on us. Dec. 7 Student Ethics Day - Volunteers Needed
The Rotary Club of Edina will host the Leadership Ethics Seminar for Edina High School students on Tuesday, December 7, at St. Patrick's Church in Edina. This all-day session features small group discussions, speakers, and a case study discussion for the entire group.
 
The Student Ethics Seminar is chaired this year by Youth Services Director, Andre Brewer. The seminar was started by longtime Rotarian Jerry Potter, who initiated the "Do the Right Thing" workshop for Edina students years ago.
 
20 Rotarians are invited to volunteer as table leaders to present the workshop provided materials and act as time and task master for each table of students. Sign up HERE and Sutton or John will contact you with the details.

Concert for a Cause - EHS Band - Oct 25, 2021
Fellow Rotarian, Brian Kimmes, of the Minneapolis Downtown Club, reached out to EMRC to give members a heads up on the Concert for a Cause on Monday, October 25th, 2021, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., in Edina High School’s Fick Auditorium. Ticket prices are $20 or $10 with a $5 student discount.
 
Money raised from this concert will go toward The Family Partnership’s mental health therapies programs. People can order tickets at the Edina High School bands website.
 
Brian is the Development Officer for The Family Partnership.
ZOOM Meetings Once A Month - First Thursday
The next Zoom meeting opportunity will be Thursday, Nov. 4th. Due to in-person meeting attendance increasing and low member interest in attending our club meetings via Zoom, the board has decided to reduce the number of Zoom meeting broadcasts to one per month. Starting October 7, the first meeting of each month will be available via Zoom, recorded and posted to the club You Tube account. Please contact President Michael Stanzak with any questions or concerns.
