Dr. Shimizu is a Distinguished University Teaching Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology and holds the Harry Kay Chair in Biomedical Research. He is also the Associate Dean for Graduate Education, Director of the Graduate School Diversity Office, and Immunology program leader in the Masonic Cancer Center. His laboratory focuses on understanding how immune cells respond to environmental cues that modulate cell-cell interactions and cell migration, and the functional significance of these molecular mechanisms of cell adhesion and migration on the ability of the immune system to respond efficiently and specifically to pathogens and tumors. Concerts on the Green begin next week, June 22. Hosted by Church of St. Patrick, presented by Washburn-McReavy and sponsored by Rotary Club of Edina and State Farm Insurance-Matt Boockmeier, this FREE two session musical series is open to the public. Thursday, June 22 talent will be a country duo, Hitchville, and Friday, July 21 will feature Classic American Rockers with special guest Red Stiletto. The June 29, 2023 meeting will mark the 69th presidential transition for the Rotary Club of Edina. During this meeting current president, Joe Hayes, will hand over the presidential duties to Shelly Loberg. Shelly joined the Edina Rotary Club in May 2015. Her sponsor is Brad Hepp and her classification is Tourism. The 2023-24 board of directors will be President, Shelly Loberg; President Elect, Paul Peterson; Treasurer, Lisa Walker; Secretary; Gerry Norton. 

This year there is a challenge between The Rotary Club of Edina and Edina Morningside Rotary Club to see which club will get the highest percentage of members to donate $25 or more to The Rotary Foundation. The annual shedding event hosted by John Mazzara was held Saturday, Jun 10 in the Re/Max Real Estate France Avenue parking lot. John offers this service free of charge to Edina rotary members each spring/early summer. It's a timely and convenient way to stay on top of the ever present purging, identity security and handling of "stuff" task. Thank you, John, for your contribution.  

On Saturday, June 3 over 10 members of The Rotary Club of Edina together with members of the Rotaract Club of Edina and Edina Federated Women's Club/GFWC worked the grass yard into a couple of side gardens and surrounded the home on three sides with flowers, trees and plants. This bungalow styled sober-living home shelters, educates and cares for formerly trafficked women. The project was organized by our community service director, John Buttolph with the professional landscape design creation and planting assistance by EMRC Rotarian, Lisa Schmitz. Great job!
