The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Dr. Michael McAlpine from the University of Minnesota as program speaker at the Thursday, Feb. 9 meeting. Dr. McAlpine is an associate professor of mechanical engineering with a focus on 3D printing. He will speak about 3D Printing Functional Materials and Devices.
Brandon Azbill will give his classification talk at the meeting.
Rotarians are busy this week reading to third-graders at Creek Valley Elementary School. This is the second year that Rotarians have taken the Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure books to students in Edina schools. It is the story of a young entrepreneur who starts an apple dumpling business. With the guidance of a mysterious voice, conveying the Four-Way Test, he turns his venture into a wonderful success and makes friends along the way.
The story was written and illustrated by Andrew J. Shoup, a children’s book author and illustrator. The book is jointly published by the Rotary Club of Fairborn, Ohio, and TokoBooks.
Thank you to Rotarians Mike Kallas, Jody Kern, Ann Platt, Josh Sprague, Michael Stanzak, Axel and Loreli Steuer and Sam Thompson, who were readers and helpers for the readings at the school.
A huge thank you to Renee Harberts for organizing the readers and coordinating with the school, and to Mary Swendsen, whose excellent apple dumplings were shared with the students.
The Edina High School Interact Club is planning a "Skate to End Polio" from 7 to 9 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 10, at Braemar Arena's Backyard Rink. Enjoy open skating with friends and family! All ages are welcome! Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for kids, and can be bought at upcoming Rotary meetings, the day of the event, or by contacting Josh Sprague.
All proceeds go towards Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign, which began in 1985 and has raised more than $1.3 billion towards the elimination of polio around the world.
The skate-a-thon is sponsored by the Interact Club of Edina High School, Rotary Club of Edina, Edina Morningside Rotary Club and Braemar Arena. For more information, contact Josh Sprague.
Get ready to put on your chef's hat, Rotarians! You are invited to an Italian cooking class at Cooks of Crocus Hill in Edina. This event offers a chance to enjoy a fine meal and team up with your fellow Rotarians and their guests to learn about Italian cooking. The class will be offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18, at Cooks of Crocus Hill, 3925 W. 50th St., Edina.
On the menu will be: Mediterranean mixed salad, pappardelle pasta with garlic cream sauce, lasagna abruzzo style with four cheeses, and chicken scarpariello (a chicken and sausage dish). There will be cash bar available for beer, wine and soda.
We have 24 spots available for the class, so don't hesitate to register online at the club website. The registration deadline is Feb. 24. Any seats left open after that date will be opened up to the public for purchase by Cooks of Crocus Hill.
