Ann and Jim Platt were honored as Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation at the Dec. 6 Rotary Club of Edina meeting. Past President Steve Slyce awarded the Platts with the the honor, and highlighted their generosity to TRF.

The Rotary Club of Edina is once again collecting holiday gifts for families in need in our community. Rotarian Jean Morrison is spearheading the Holiday Giving Program, which will be donating to CornerStone and 66 West again this year. Members are asked to bring UNWRAPPED gifts and gift cards for children of any age (infant all the way through teens) as well as gifts for moms, dads, and families served by CornerStone. This year, gift cards to Macy's or Marshalls were also requested for the residents at 66 West to buy clothing for job interviews. The donations can be dropped off at the Edina Country Club at Rotary meeting this week, Dec. 13, or at the Holiday Party on Thursday, Dec. 20. Cash or check donations are also welcome. Jean will take the funds donated and buy gift cards or other gifts to be donated as well. 

 

 

The Rotary Club of Edina Holiday Party is next Thursday, Dec. 20, starting at 5:30 p.m. Join your fellow Rotarians and their guests for hearty appetizers and a cash bar at the Edina Country Club. Linda Peterson, of the incredibly talented Peterson Family, will be performing to put everyone in the holiday spirit!

 

Please register if you plan to attend so we can plan for the party. The registration deadline is this Friday, Dec. 14. We have had record registration so far—so don't miss out celebrating the holidays with your fellow Rotarians!

 

There is NO regular Rotary Club of Edina meeting Dec. 20 or 27. 

 

Thank you for the very generous grant to the Suds of Hope laundry project at Open Arms for Children! I am very grateful for your leadership in making this combined District and multi-Club grant possible! With 58 children in our care, we do a lot of laundry at Open Arms and this generous grant will help us buy new laundry equipment to keep up with our work. God bless you, and each and every member of your fabulous Rotary Club for the help! 

 

Enclosed you will find a photo of the two new employees we have recently hired to work [at the new laundry building]. These women are single mothers, so thank you for your critical role in making their employment possible. The Edina Rotary Club is truly representing Rotary In Action to our staff and children!

 

 

The speaker at the Dec. 6 Rotary Club of Edina meeting was Matt Halley, executive director at Cookie Cart. He spoke about "Cookie Cart: Baking Bright Futures." 

 

Jean Morrison encouraged everyone to donate gifts, gift cards or cash to the annual Rotary Holiday Giving Program. This year, the donations will benefit Cornerstone and 66 West. Donations accepted at the meeting Dec. 13 and the Holiday Party Dec. 20.
