The City of Edina will host a blood drive for Memorial Blood Centers 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in the Council Chambers of Edina City Hall, 4801 W. 50th St. According to the Memorial Blood Center, the Twin Cities faces a high demand for blood. Those in need include cancer patients; accident, burn and trauma victims; newborn babies and mothers delivering babies; transplant recipients; surgery patients; chronically transfused patients with sickle cell disease; and many more. Kelly Smeltzer has worked for the Minnesota Department of Health in the Indoor Air Unit for just over 10 years. Her responsibilities include public outreach and education on IAQ concerns, inspections related to two distinct air quality related laws, and coordination of the unit’s enforcement activities. She holds a B.A. in Biology from St. Olaf College and a M.P.H. in Environmental Health from the University of Minnesota School of Public Health.
