Dr. H.L. Saylor, III is a Vascular Surgeon, Medical Director of Perioperative Services, and former Chief of Staff and former Chief of Surgery at Fairview Southdale Hospital.
Dr. Saylor will be discussing a true gem in the Edina community – Fairview Southdale Hospital. It is one of the largest employers in the city and has received a Five-Star Rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid. It is one of only two hospitals in the metro to receive this honor, and one of less than 300 to receive this award nationally. He will discuss the benefits of having such a hospital for you and your family, and will talk about how YOU can make a difference in healthcare in our community.
The next Rotary Vocational Development Group will meet Wednesday, December 4. Our speaker will be Edina Morningside Rotary Club member, Talley Flora. As the CEO of Red Seat, Talley is an expert on hiring and helping businesses find employees as quickly, efficiently and affordably as possible. Please feel free to extend an invitation to friends, prospective members, as well as members from other clubs. Once a month, Edina Rotarians have a chance to connect with other club members, and any guests, at happy hour to discuss their business and careers. This Rotary event is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Mezz at the Lunds & Byerly's in Edina. The meeting will feature a brief presentation from a featured Rotarian, plus time for introductions, networking and questions. The Rotary Club of Edina and EMRC collaborate on this event.
The Rotary Club of Edina is once again collecting holiday gifts for families in need in our community. LAST DAY donations can be dropped off at the Edina Country Club during our Holiday Cocktail Party on Thursday, December 19.Cash or check donations are also welcome. Rotarian Jean Morrison is spearheading the Holiday Giving Program, which will be donating to CornerStone and 66 West again this year. Members are asked to bring UNWRAPPED gifts and gift cards for children of any age (infant all the way through teens) as well as gifts for moms, dads, and families served by CornerStone. This year, gift cards to Macy's, Marshalls, Target, Famous Footwear, Torrid were also requested for the residents at 66 West to buy clothing for job interviews. Jean will take the funds donated and buy gift cards or other gifts to be donated as well.
Our December 12th meeting is holiday themed and family centered. Your family, children and grandchildren are welcomed to join us as we begin our Rotary holiday celebration season. Santa Claus will arrive at 11:45 am for pictures followed by lunch including kid-friendly menu options. There will be some very brief business details conducted and the program will be entertainment instead of a speaker. Under the direction of Jim Hawthorne, we will enjoy the beautiful voices of the Normandale French Immersion Choir made up of 4th and 5th graders. Our meeting will end with a reading of "Twas The Night Before Christmas".
Member meal cost is paid for with your quarterly dues. Adult guest cost is $20 per person and children cost $12 each. Registration has closed for this event. Eat, Drink and Be Merry! The Rotary Club of Edina Holiday Cocktail Party is right around the corner! The annual holiday gathering will be Thursday, Dec. 19, starting at 5:30 p.m. The registration deadline was Friday, Dec. 13 and registration is now closed. Join your fellow Rotarians and their significant others for hearty appetizers and a cash bar at the Edina Country Club. Linda Peterson, of the incredibly talented Peterson Family, will be performing to put everyone in the holiday spirit!
Cost for the party is $20 for guests, senior active or honorary Rotarians. Payment can be made at the door with cash, check or credit card, or you can be billed on the next quarterly invoice.
The Rotaract Club of Edina will meet twice in December:
Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Bald Man Brewing starting at 7:00 to 9:00 pm. This is a service project, Beers and Blankets, collaboration with Twin Cities Rotaract Club. We will be making tie blankets to benefit Centro Guadalupoano non-profit serving immigrants and refugees.

Michael Stanzak and Mary Hustad, Thanksgiving Basket Committee Chair and "Queen of Baskets"
Rotarians of the Noon and Morningside Clubs gathered for our annual Thanksgiving basket assembly. Approximately 85 families in need received a complete Thanksgiving meal accompanied with hats, mittens and a wool blanket graciously donated by Faribault Woolen Mill. Michael Stanzak led us in prayer, and the Sprague kids directed the Pledge of Allegiance and 4 Way Test. Michael Stanzak shared a heart-warming story about a father, daughter and dog which reminded us about the importance of companionship and having impact on others, even when we don’t even know it. Mary Hustad, the “Queen of the Baskets” organized the groups and the packing commenced. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a huge success!
