Last day to register for the Veterans Luncheon

The annual Area 3 Rotary Veterans Luncheon is set for Monday, Nov. 12, at Bloomington Hilton, 3900 American Blvd. W., Bloomington. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. with live music, with the luncheon beginning at 11:15 and concluding at 1:15 p.m.

Today, Thursday, Nov. 1, is the last day to register! Please sign up yourself and all guests online. We need to report our attendance to the planners, so all are asked to register if they plan to attend.

Gen. Denny Schulstad, U.S. Air Force (retired), will be the emcee at the event. Schulstad is a former long-time member of our club. The featured speaker at the luncheon is Col. Ken Rizer, U.S. Air Force (retired).

Each Rotarian may invite up to two veterans as guests of our club, and Senior Active and Honorary Rotarians who are veterans may attend free of charge. Cost for guests that are not veterans will be $25.

There is no Rotary Club of Edina meeting on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Edina Country Club. All members are encouraged to attend the Veterans Luncheon.

Next Rotary Happy Hour is Wednesday, Nov. 7

The next Rotary Vocational Development Group will be Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Once a month, Edina Rotarians have a chance to connect with other club members, and any guests, at the happy hour. This Rotary event is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Mezz at the Lunds & Byerly's in Edina. The meeting will feature a brief presentation from a featured Rotarian, plus time for introductions, networking and questions. The speaker at the Nov. 7 get-together is Valeri Burke. The Rotary Club of Edina and EMRC collaborate on this event.

Blood Drive success is an inspiration

For the first time in about six years Rotary Club of Edina hosted a blood drive on Oct. 25 with Memorial Blood Center’s mobile unit parked at Edina Country Club.

Thank you for showing up to donate as planned, and as meeting walk-ins, Rotarians, family members, friends and Edina Country Club members. We scored beyond expectations with 27 donations drawn by Memorial Blood Center over a four-hour span.

Thank you to our hosts for the Fall Fireside Chats! Tom Ries, Thom Winninger, Gordy Lewis and Paul Mooty all invited Rotarians into their homes in October for food and fellowship.

ERF awards international grants

The Edina Rotary Foundation recently awarded $4,500 for three international service projects. They included grants to Protect Me Project, Open Arms Home for Children "Suds of Hope" program and Nibakure Community Village.

Local grant applications sought

The Edina Rotary Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations in Edina and its contiguous communities for grants to be used for capital purchases. Applications are due Nov. 30.

The program speaker at the Oct. 25 Rotary Club of Edina meeting was J. Drake Hamilton from Fresh Energy. She spoke about "The Economic Power of Clean Energy."

Our two newest members, Sharon Chandler and Sylvester Thomas, were officially inducted into the club.

Two Edina High School students visited our meeting and told us a bit about their time at EHS and future plans.
