Hosted by the Rotary Club of Edina and Edina Rotary Morningside Club, Stephaine Urchick, will be speaking at a breakfast meeting on Wednesday March 11. Doors open at 7:30 am with program at 8:30 am. This event will be held at the Interlachen Country Club, 6200 Interlachen Blvd, Edina MN. Cost will be $19 per person. Early registration has closed. More than 14,000 sets of information related to organics recycling need to be assembled by April, and the City of Edina is looking for your help! To introduce the citywide organics recycling program to residents, volunteers are needed to assemble “welcome” kits that will delivered with the recycling carts. The carts are to be rolled out in April. Kits will be assembled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, March 23 and Tuesday, March 24, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25 in the Edina City Hall Council Chambers, 4801 W. 50th St. Shift info and signup below under "Read More".

Sgt. Grant Snyder, MPD Homeless Liason,brought to our club his message of homelessness and his efforts to build relationships and bring safety to those in need.  His words and actions had a profound impact on many of our members.  In a downtown Minneapolis open lot, we will help the Minneapolis Police Department and Sgt. Snyder prepare a hot breakfast, serve roughly 100 homeless individuals and families then clean up on a Saturday morning. This event is scheduled to be held outdoors. Committee members are needed for two Youth Service Committees that will complete its work this spring.

 

Rotarians are needed on the Scholarships Committee. Committee members will review applications from seniors at Edina High School and award at least one scholarship for post-secondary education to someone who has participated in one of the club’s programs. The scholarship will be presented Friday, May 22, at a special breakfast at the Church of St. Patrick.

President Josh Sprague welcomed members and opened our meeting this week with the sad news of the passing of Harry Spell, long-time Rotarian. Harry graduated from Minneapolis West High School, attended University of MN where he received a degree in electrical engineering, completed the NROTC program and was commissioned into the Navy as an officer. Harry was with XCEL Energy for 38 years, retiring as CFO at age 65. He was active in the Edina Rotary and over the years served on many philanthropic and corporate boards, both public and private. Harry was a member of and leader within the Greek Orthodox Church. Harry's greatest joy was his family and his Christian faith.  Harry will be missed by many loving family members, friends and Rotarians. We were also sad to learn of the sudden passing of Rolf Henze, father of fellow Rotarian, Sonja Tengdin. Cheif Henze passed after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. Rolf was very active in Rotary and was the inspiration for Sonja’s Rotary journey.
