Mike Johnson to speak to March 1
The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Mike Johnson as the program speaker at the Thursday, March 1, meeting. Johnson will speak about "Drones—What Can They Really Do?" He is the senior vice president of operations for SkySnopes. Johnson is the son of Rotarian Doug Johnson.

Edina State of the City is today, Feb. 28
WHAT: Edina 2018 State of the City event, co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edina, Edina Morningside Rotary Club and Edina Chamber of Commerce
WHEN: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 28
WHERE: Edina Country Club
WHO: All Rotarians are encouraged to attend
INFO: Edina Mayor James B. Hovland (an Edina Morningside Rotary member), as well as School Superintendent John Schultz and City Manager Scott Neal (an Edina Rotarian) will present information about future plans and city issues. Cost for lunch and the program is $35 per person. Go to the Edina Chamber website for more information. Edina residents may attend the meeting as non-lunching guests. An RSVP is appreciated to erica@edina.org. The registration deadline has passed.

Rotary Happy Hour is Wednesday, March 7
The next Rotary Vocational Development Group will be Wednesday, March. 7. 
 
Once a month, Edina Rotarians have a chance to connect with other club members, and any guests, at the happy hour. This Rotary event is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Mezz at the Lunds & Byerly's in Edina. The meeting will feature a brief presentation from a featured Rotarian, plus time for introductions, networking and questions. The featured speaker at the March 7 gathering will be Kelley Burnett. The Rotary Club of Edina and EMRC collaborate on this event.

March Madness event—sign up now!

WHAT: March Madness Basketball Championship Bracket and NCAA National Championship game party
WHEN: Sign up for the bracket competition by March 10; pick your winners between March 11–14; party is at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 2
WHERE: Party is at Poor Richard's Commonhouse, 8301 Normandale Road, Bloomington. The party will feature appetizers and a cash bar.
COST/INFO: A $10 entry fee gets you into the competition. You will make your picks between March 11 and 14. The organizers of the event can help you with your bracket picks if this is your first time. On March 11, we will send out a link to the online brackets to anyone registered. All you need to do now is sign up to take part! Everyone interested in taking part must register by March 10. Payouts will go to first, second and third place winners in the bracket! We will crown our bracket winner at the party April 2. Cost for the party is $15 per person. Please register online and indicate on the registration page if you are signing up for the bracket, party, or both.

• $10 for just the bracket competition
• $15 per person for just the Championship Game party
• $25 to take part in the bracket and attend the party

Join the High School Scholarship Committee
The Rotary Club of Edina will award two $1,250 scholarships to deserving Edina High School graduates this spring. Scholarships will be given to seniors who exemplify the Rotarian motto of “Service Above Self” and have participated in Rotary programs such as Camp Enterprise, Camp RYLA and the Interact Club of Edina. The application review period is tentatively scheduled for March 21 through mid-April.

The program speakers at the Thursday, Feb. 22, Rotary Club of Edina meeting were Chris Omodt and Pat Matter, authors of the book, “Breaking the Code.” They were introduced by Pat Matter's niece, Rotarian Heather Edelson. Guests included two of Edina Police officers, David Venne and Brian Tholen; and Jake Omodt, Chris Omodt's son.
 
Shelly Loberg, International Service Director, shared what her committee is working on so far this Rotary year.
