Joe Schmit is an award-winning broadcaster, community leader, an author and popular keynote speaker. He is a 2019 inductee into the Minnesota Speakers Hall of fame and has earned his CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation from the National Speakers Association. He has won 19 Emmys from the National Television Academy. In 2020, Joe was awarded The Silver Circle designation by the Upper Midwest Chapter of the Emmys for extraordinary contributions to the broadcasting industry. He was also honored with a National Headliner Award in 2001.

President Paul Peterson announced the date, theme and location for this year's Edina Rotary Foundation fundraiser. Please mark Saturday, September 28 as the date to party at "The Purple Gala". The Edina Rotary Foundation is accepting applications from nonprofit organizations in Edina and its contiguous communities for grants to be used for capital purchases. Applications are due Oct. 31. Grant guidelines can be found HERE. Grant application can be found HERE.

With the help and guidance of our Public Relations Director, Chris Laskowski, the Community Grants Committee has produced a quick way to introduce our guidelines for submitting a grant to potential grant recipients. Rotary Club of Edina Past President Shelly Loberg recently recognized a Rotarian for outstanding service to the club and community. Kaylin Eidsness was named “Rotarian of the Year.”

Eidsness, who joined the club in 2013, co-chaired the Edina Rotary Foundation’s annual fundraiser, “Bootleggers’ Ball.” A talented graphic designer, Eidsness designed the logo and materials for the 2023 fundraiser, as well as materials for most of the club’s fundraisers for the past decade. She is also a longtime member of the club’s Public Image Committee and was an instrumental member of the Program Committee for the 2023-2024 Rotary year, finding and assisting speakers for weekly meetings.

Bob Scott, a member since 2023, was named the club’s Volunteer of the Year. Scott served on the club’s Fundraiser, Scholarships and Women in Leadership Award committees.

Jennifer Bennerotte was presented with a Distinguished Service Award. She co-chaired the annual fundraiser with Eidsness; chaired the Scholarships, Women in Leadership Award and third-grade literacy program committees and served on the Community Service – Local Grants and Public Image committees.

Eidsness, Scott and Bennerotte each received a plaque for their dedicated service during the 2023-2024 Rotary year, which ended June 30.

The new 2024-2025 Rotary year is just around the corner. We are looking forward to President Elect Paul Peterson becoming President Paul Peterson and his continued leadership to motivate our club and make each of us feel valued, inspired and connected to each other.
