Bill McGuire to speak at July 19 meeting

The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Bill McGuire as the program speaker at the Thursday, July 19, meeting. McGuire is former chairman and CEO of UnitedHealth Group, and owns the Minnesota United FC, Minnesota's professional soccer team.

Rotarian Katy Campbell will give her Classification Talk at the meeting.

Prospective Member Day at Rotary this week

Rotary Club of Edina will host another Prospective Member Day at this week's meeting, Thursday, July 19. All Rotarians are encouraged to bring a friend or colleague that is interested in learning more about Rotary and our club to the meeting. Lunch is on the club for all prospective members July 19! Please make sure your guests sign in at the guest table before the meeting.

Rotary volunteers needed for bread delivery

Edina Rotarians do a great community service five days every week bringing day-old BreadSmith bread from Jerry’s Foods on Vernon Avenue to several Loaves and Fishes sites. Several Edina Rotarians—Alan Mogck, Kris Maser, Les Jones, Scott Hawkins and Doug Johnson—have faithfully done this during the past two years.

Rotarian Alan Mogck has now retired and we need a replacement. This is a two-person task on Monday mornings to deliver and package bread at the Loaves and Fishes warehouse on Kasota Avenue.

International Service grants awarded

The Edina Rotary Foundation recently awarded up to $21,000 in grants for four pending international service projects. The projects will take place in Guatemala, Palestine and South Africa. Our International Service Committee will partner with other local and international Rotary clubs, as well as other organizations, to fund the projects.

The first meeting of the 2018–2019 Rotary year was presided over by John Flynn, our president for the next year. The July 12 meeting featured Bill McReavy, the 2018 Aquatennial Commodore, and other Aquatennial Ambassadors.

Youth Service Director Kip Peterson gave an update on the past year's Youth Service projects.

Terry Stevens, Youth Exchange Co-Chair, introduced the three outgoing Youth Exchange students for the 2018-2019 school year.

John Flynn announced the theme of the 2018 Fundraiser & Gala—"Rotary's Got Talent." The accompanying video was "Simply Irresistible."
