Erik began his personal training career working for Northwest Athletic Club (since acquired by Life Time Fitness.) His passion and knowledge enabled him to become one of the top trainers. Although doing extremely well at Northwest, Erik envisioned a place where he could make a difference in people’s lives outside of the constraints of the corporate world. In 2005, Erik left a lucrative personal training career to open up his own studio, enabling him to create his own vision of how to help people discover their fitness potential.

Edina Public Schools Superintendent John Schultz and Mayor James B. Hovland will present the “2020 State of the Community” Wednesday, Feb. 26. Edina City Manager Scott Neal will emcee the program.
The presentation is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Edina, Rotary Club of Edina Morningside and Edina Chamber of Commerce. It will be presented as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s monthly general membership meeting at Edina Country Club, 5100 Wooddale Ave., and include a game of “Friendly Feud” between Rotarians and Chamber members.
The speech will cover topics such as the school district’s strategic plan, public safety, community demographics, housing, and traffic and transportation. The 2020 State of the Community will later be broadcast on Edina TV and available for streaming online. It will be shown on Edina TV 10 p.m. Sundays, 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays, 10 p.m. Wednesdays and 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thursdays through March 31.
Register Cost for the luncheon, which is open to the public, is $35. People may attend the meeting as non-lunching guests. Any proceeds from the event will be used for a future mixer of Chamber members and Rotarians. Register online.

FIVE Volunteers Needed. The Rotary Club of Edina will hold a Serve-A-Meal event at Cornerstone from 5:00 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2020. At this Community Service Committee project, volunteers will serve a meal for 50 to 60 Cornerstone clients and their children. Rotary volunteers are encouraged to mingle with the residence and may bring activity books/crayons to play with and give the younger residents. Volunteers at Cornerstone have a direct impact on the lives of people affected by domestic violence, sexual violence, and human trafficking. We need 8 volunteers for the event. Tour of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden & permanent collection exhibition, 5 Ways In. This is a small, 20-person group tour lead by an experienced and very knowledgeable Walker curator. There will be a total of 3 groups (60 people). Cost will be $13.00 per person for the two-hour tour. The Esker Grove restaurant serves cocktails, bar snacks and dinner until 9 PM, phone 612-375-7542 taking reservations before or after your tour. Meal accommodations and cost are member choice and not included in the tour price. Parking is available in the attached ramp for $6.00. Committee members are needed for two Youth Service Committees that will complete its work this spring.
Rotarians are needed on the Scholarships Committee. Committee members will review applications from seniors at Edina High School and award at least one scholarship for post-secondary education to someone who has participated in one of the club’s programs. The scholarship will be presented Friday, May 22, at a special breakfast at the Church of St. Patrick.
Volunteers are also needed for the Third-Grade Literacy Committee. Committee members will read and distribute copies of Andy & Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure to third graders 12:10-12:40 p.m. Monday, April 13, at Creek Valley Elementary School, and 1 to 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 20, at Cornelia Elementary School.

The 2020 Edina High School Interact club's Skate to End Polio held on Feb. 14 raised $1,682 making it one of the highest fundraising events ever. This money will be donated to Rotary International's End Polio drive. Interact clubs bring together young people ages 12-18 to develop leadership skills while discovering the power of Service Above Self. Find out how serious leadership can be seriously fun. These clubs organize at least two projects every year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding. The Rotary Club of Edina and Edina Morningside Rotary Club co- sponsor, mentor and guide Interactors as they carry out projects and develop leadership skills. The Edina High School Interact club worked with the animal humane society and created pet toys for their local project. Their international focus continues to draw attention to and fund Rotary International’s polio cause. See our webpage under the Youth Services for more information on Interact. President Josh Sprague began the meeting with his Rotary Connects the World Video Series which highlights nine of our Community Service Board Members and focuses on how they believe Rotary connects all of those living in the world today. The first two board members featured were Kenny Smith and Fred Sylvester. This week’s focus was Susan Stiles. President Sprague went on to thank all those members that had specific job responsibilities for the club this week. Dan Hallberg came up to lead the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Four-Way Test, Mark Stageberg followed suit and welcomed our guests and visiting Rotarians of which we had quite a few, several of whom plan to or have already submitted membership paperwork for our club.
