Led by Past President Jennifer Bennerotte, the fall Club Assembly will focus on committees, Rotary International’s new requirement for reporting service hours, the club’s grant-making process and 2017–2018 signature projects, and more. The annual Area 3 Rotary Veterans Luncheon is set for Thursday, Nov. 9, at Bearpath Golf and Country Club, 18100 Bearpath Trail, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. with live music, with the luncheon beginning at 11:15 and concluding at 1:15 p.m.
Please register yourself and all guests online by Nov. 1. We need to report our attendance to the planners, so all are asked to register if they plan to attend.
Each Rotarian may invite up to two veterans as guests of our club, and Senior Active and Honorary Rotarians who are veterans may attend free of charge. Cost for guests that are not veterans will be $25. Senior Active or Honorary members who are not veterans will be charged the usual $20.
There is no Rotary Club of Edina meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Edina Country Club. All members are encouraged to attend the Veterans Luncheon.

At the Oct. 19 Rotary Club of Edina meeting, our club's The Rotary Foundation Director David Clynes honored several members for achieving Paul Harris Fellowship status or more. Here are the Rotarians who were recognized for their donations to The Rotary Foundation:
The investment portfolio of the Edina Rotary Foundation’s Legacy Fund is up 12.39 percent year to date.
The Legacy Fund is the endowment fund of the Edina Rotary Foundation. It is overseen by the Investment Committee chaired by Past President Jeff Ohe and managed pro bono by the firm of McNellis & Asato.
At the Oct. 25 meeting of the Edina Rotary Foundation Board of Directors, Ohe gave a report on the Legacy Fund and its earnings. The fund currently totals over $232,000. Once it reaches $250,000, investment earnings will be drawn off to support the club’s committed projects and grants awarded by the Foundation.

Rotarians attended the Twin Cities Film Festival on Oct. 21 in support of the showing of the Steve Rummler Hope Network video on the opioid crisis. The video was shown before another movie, "DEA's Chasing the Dragon," that is part of the Film Festival. It was a short version (7 minutes) of the video. The full 22-minute video will air on the local PBS channel, TPT.
Edina Rotary Foundation has granted funds to the Steve Rummler Hope Network to produce videos educating doctors and the public about the dangers of opioids, the long-term effects and overdoses. Lexi Reed Holtum, executive director of the Steve Rummler Hope Network, received the Changemaker award at the Film Festival. She is pictured in the middle above.

The annual Thanksgiving Baskets Assembly will be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 22, at the Edina Country Club. Our club will partner with Edina Morningside Rotary Club again this year to assemble and deliver baskets to those in need. We will gather at 11:45 a.m. for lunch, and then will begin assembling the Thanksgiving baskets for area families in need after that. Volunteers are needed for the basket assembly, as well as deliveries after the event.
Bring friends and family to join in lunch, assembly of baskets and delivery. Please register here if you plan to attend, and make sure to register all guests. Cost for lunch is $20 for Senior Active, Honorary and adult guests. Children cost $12.

Since 1988, we have seen a 99 percent reduction in polio cases around the world, but the fight is not finished. Polio continues to paralyze children in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria. As long as one child is at risk all children are, which is why Rotary is committed to see this effort to the very end.
