Once a month, Edina Rotarians have a chance to connect with other club members, and any guests, at the happy hour. This Rotary event is held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at The Mezz at the Lunds & Byerly's in Edina. The meeting will feature a brief presentation from a featured Rotarian, plus time for introductions, networking and questions. The featured speaker at the May 2 gathering will be Kelley Burnett. The Rotary Club of Edina and EMRC collaborate on this event.
Countryside Elementary School and the Rotary Club of Edina celebrated Arbor Day, Friday, April 27, with a ceremonial planting on the school grounds.
Making the case that protecting the environment and curbing climate change are essential to Rotary’s goal of sustainable service, Rotary International President Ian Riseley challenged Rotary Clubs around the world to plant trees in honor of its members this year. Trees remove carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gasses from the air, which slows global warming.
To meet Risely’s goal, the Rotary Club of Edina and Rotary International District 5950 are providing funding to Edina Public Schools to plant 39 trees of 18 varieties on the grounds of several schools. Six trees will be planted at Countryside, 5701 Benton Ave., including two Siouxland Poplars, two Blue Beach Poplars, a Quaking Aspen and a Sienna Glen Maple.
Kindergarten students helped with the ceremonial planting at the school on Arbor Day. The Rotary Club of Edina also provided 600 Scotch Pine, White Pine, Black Hills Spruce and Meyer Spruce seedings to Countryside Elementary students on Arbor Day.
The Rotary Club of Edina will hold a Vocational Day meeting Thursday, May 17, at the University of Minnesota Athletes Village. Box lunches and bottled water will be provided. There will be a tour of the complex after lunch and a presentation.
Bus transportation is available for a limited number of members. A 56-passenger bus will leave from the Edina Country Club Check promptly at 11:15 p.m. The bus will return to the ECC by 2 p.m.
If you prefer to drive, parking will be available on campus at the Fourth Street ramp, located along Fifth Street Southeast. You enter the ramp on the 17th Avenue side.
Registration is required to attend this meeting. We are limited to a maximum of 100 people at the meeting, and 56 to ride the bus. Please indicate on the registration page if you would like to ride the bus to the meeting. Click here to register online. Register early so you can be sure to attend, and get a spot on the bus if needed.
Cost for the meeting is the same as a regular meeting—Senior Active and Honorary members will pay $20 at the door; regular members were already billed for this meeting on their Q4 invoice.

It takes the assistance of almost 200 volunteers to make Moving Day Twin Cities possible. The Parkinson’s Foundation is looking for individuals or groups who are available Saturday, May 5, to join us in Plymouth at Hilde Park and volunteer to support this Walk for Parkinson's Disease.
Volunteer roles include assisting with set up, registration, greeting guests, cheering on the crowd during the walk and more! There are various shifts available, for varying lengths of time throughout the morning.
If interested, check out opportunities and sign up to volunteer here. Questions? Contact Jennifer Hendrickson at 763-317-1303 or jhendrickson@parkinson.org.
