The Edina Rotary Foundation recently awarded a grant to The Salvation Army to be used for hurricane recovery efforts.
The Foundation in late October awarded a grant of $3,250 to the Salvation Army. In the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, Maria and Nate, The Salvation Army responded with one of the largest disaster relief operations in its history.
The grant was initiated by the Rotary Club of Edina’s Community Service–Local Funding Committee.
Rotary Camp Enterprise starts this Thursday, Nov. 2! Sam Thompson and his team will be welcoming about 100 high school students to Camp Ihduhapi for the three-day camp, Nov. 2–4. More than 20 Edina Rotarians volunteered at Feed My Starving Children in Chanhassen Saturday, Oct. 28. According to Joe Arends, Community Service—Local Projects Director, the volunteers packed 138 boxes which contained 29,808 meals! This would feed 82 kids for one year. The total cost would be $6,558 at 22 cents a meal.

The four Fall Fireside Chats were well attended last week by new members and longtime Rotarians! Chair Brad Hepp would like to thank the hosts for their wonderful support in making our chats successful events.
The annual Area 3 Rotary Veterans Luncheon is set for Thursday, Nov. 9, at Bearpath Golf and Country Club, 18100 Bearpath Trail, Eden Prairie, MN 55347. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. with live music, with the luncheon beginning at 11:15 and concluding at 1:15 p.m.
The registration deadline for the event has passed. If you did not sign up, contact President-Elect John Flynn.
Each Rotarian could invite up to two veterans as guests of our club, and Senior Active and Honorary Rotarians who are veterans may attend free of charge. Cost for guests that are not veterans will be $25. Senior Active or Honorary members who are not veterans will be charged the usual $20.
There is no Rotary Club of Edina meeting on Thursday, Nov. 9, at the Edina Country Club. All members are encouraged to attend the Veterans Luncheon.
The annual Thanksgiving Baskets Assembly will be the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Nov. 22, at the Edina Country Club. Our club will partner with Edina Morningside Rotary Club again this year to assemble and deliver baskets to those in need. We will gather at 11:45 a.m. for lunch, and then will begin assembling the Thanksgiving baskets for area families in need after that. Volunteers are needed for the basket assembly, as well as deliveries after the event.
Bring friends and family to join in lunch, assembly of baskets and delivery. Please register here if you plan to attend, and make sure to register all guests. Cost for lunch is $20 for Senior Active, Honorary and adult guests. Children cost $12.
Contact Michael Stanzak or Mary Hustad with info about who you would like to be paired up with for deliveries or for more information about the event. Baskets are delivered to families in Edina, and north and south Minneapolis.

Beacon Interfaith Housing Collaborative Executive Director Lee Blons shares an update on 66 West: Because your support was essential to the creation of 66 West, I wanted to share this short video about Danae, one of the new residents there. Danae talks about the new opportunities that are open to her because she has a home at 66 West. Danae also spoke to Beacon supporters at Ending Homelessness Together last week. The Oct. 26 meeting was a Club Assembly. Rotary International encourages Rotary Clubs to have a Club Assembly twice a year to train, exchange ideas and celebrate accomplishments. Clubs are encouraged to have at least two per year to inform and excite Rotarians. Our assembly was led by one of our past presidents, Jennifer Bennerotte, and included an interactive trivia game that had us all on our phones during the meeting!
