The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Don Smithmier as program speaker at the Thursday, July 26. Smithmier is the founder and CEO of two companies: GoKart Labs and The Big Know. He will speak about "We're All Digital Start-ups Now."

At the July 19 Rotary Club of Edina meeting, several Rotarians were honored for their donations to The Rotary Foundation. David Clynes, our club's The Rotary Foundation Director, presented them with pins and congratulations. He was assisted by past president Scott MacDonald.

Members of the Rotary Club of Edina had a sporty week! Some lucky Club members won tickets to a Minnesota United soccer game at last week's meeting. Ann Platt, Bonnie Rolstad, Wooj Byun, and his guest, Don Liu, were just a few of the Rotarians that attended the match July 22. And the United won!

 

And July 24, a group of Rotarians, family and friends attended the Minnesota Lynx women's basketball game, where the Lynx prevailed in an exciting down-to-the-wire nail biter.

WHAT: Hand out Deterra packets at Night to Unite block parties in Edina

WHEN: Tuesday, Aug. 7, starting at 6 p.m.

WHO: Any Rotarian and family or friends
INFO: We need volunteers to hand out the packets (which are a safe way to render drugs inactive, allowing people to easily dispose of drugs) with the help of the Edina Crime Prevention Fund. We'd love to deliver packets to block parties Rotarians might be hosting! Please send us info on any of your block parties!

Edina Rotarians do a great community service five days every week bringing day-old BreadSmith bread from Jerry’s Foods on Vernon Avenue to several Loaves and Fishes sites. Several Edina Rotarians—Alan Mogck, Kris Maser, Les Jones, Scott Hawkins and Doug Johnson—have faithfully done this during the past two years. 

Rotarian Alan Mogck has now retired and we need a replacement. This is a two-person task on Monday mornings to deliver and package bread at the Loaves and Fishes warehouse on Kasota Avenue.

Please let everyone at Rotary know how much I appreciate the beautiful, big floral arrangement the club sent me, which is still going and looking great! 

I also very much appreciate the many get-well cards, prayers and kind words. It is so nice to know I have so many Rotary friends. The collective expression of goodwill and affection is humbling and very heartening. 

I am making a good recovery and look forward to being at a Rotary meeting soon!

The July 19 Rotary Club of Edina meeting was a Prospective Member Day, with many guests attending. The program speaker was Dr. Bill Maguire, former chairman and CEO of UnitedHealth Group, and owns the Minnesota United FC, Minnesota's professional soccer team.

Rotarian Katy Campbell gave her Classification Talk at the meeting. 

 

Yifei Zhang, an Edina High School graduate who was one of the recipients of an Edina Rotary Foundation scholarship, spoke to the club about her time at EHS and future plans.

 

New Community Service (Projects) Director Kenny Smith gave a report on the committees activities in the past Rotary year, and what is to come.
