Speaker for Oct 31 - Janie Colford
Janie, originally a farm girl from Ohio, now considers herself a Minnesotan after having moved to the Twin Cities 30 years ago. Most of those 30 years were spent working for Prudential and raising a family. She is married and has 5 children ranging in age from 6 to 27. Janie became involved in working with the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation after her nephew, Drew Miller, died of a heroin overdose in March 2013. It was after finding out that the first responder who came to her sister’s house didn’t have Naloxone (the life saving drug that could have saved him) that she reached out to the Steve Rummler Hope Foundation to say she wanted to help get the important bill they were working on – Steve’s Law – passed. Janie also has a son that is afflicted with the disease of addiction thus furthering her determination to make a difference and bring awareness to the overprescribing of prescription pain medication and the dangers of overdose from these prescriptions and from heroin. Janie joined the Steve Rummler HOPE Foundation board of directors in 2014. With her retirement from Prudential in 2014, has had more time to dedicate to activities that will make a difference and save lives.

Sock Drive for Homeless

Donation Box -- New and Gently Used Socks Needed This Week

Please take a look through your sock drawer and bring your gently used or new socks to this week's meeting. While finding enough food is a challenge, it is much more difficult for the homeless population to find socks. Being without socks leads to sores on the knees, toes and ankles of someone who spends a lot of time on their feet. With the colder weather quickly approaching, frostbite and wetness also become a factor.  This drive is in conjunction with Sgt. Grant Snyder's lunch service scheduled for Saturday, November 16. See Ann Platt or Toshie Metzeger for details.
Camp Enterprise Student Openings Available
Camp Enterprise is just a week away and we are excitedly finalizing plans for nearly 120 students to arrive! We have a fantastic 3 day program set for these students, and I am so appreciative of the generous support from our club when it comes to pulling everything together.

And we have a fabulous offer for entrepreneurial minded Edina students with camp openings available for immediate registration!

Camp Enterprise - Nov. 7 - 9 Volunteers Needed

Camp Enterprise is a three-day camp for high school juniors and seniors designed to introduce students to the free enterprise system and encourage entrepreneurship and ethical business practices. The experience is often life changing. Each year, at least five (5) $1,000 higher education scholarships are awarded to students of exceptional merit. In total, Camp Enterprise has awarded more than $80,000 in scholarships since its inception. We are looking forward to another successful year. If you're interested in volunteering please see Stefan Smith, Sam Thompson or Becci Michalski.
Nov. 16 Homeless Lunch Help Needed
Please volunteer to help prepare and serve chili to the downtown homeless population through Sgt. Grant Snyder's out reach program. The event is on Saturday, November 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in an open lot in the Cedar Ave area near The Cabooze (913 Cedar Ave). We need 4 to 6 more people to sign up. Sign up here or check your email. See Ann Platt for details.
Rotaract is Looking for Speakers
Rotaract Club of Edina would love our help in securing speakers for their upcoming year of meetings. They are looking for members who feel compelled to share their life experiences, leadership principles, or other concepts with them.

At a recent board meeting, it was decided to focus their club efforts this year on personal and professional development. They are currently planning to engage people to help guide them in these areas. A Google Form, “Call for Proposals”, has been created to help start the speaking engagement process. Here’s the link to the Form: https://forms.gle/qLt7nG9ahnhtB5VZA

Rotaract clubs consist of young professionals between the ages of 18 and 30 to take action in their communities, develop their leadership and professional skills, and have fun. There is only one Rotaract Club in District 5950. The Rotary Club of Edina and the Edina Morningside Rotary Club support The Rotaract Club of Edina and their members will manage its club independently. As Rotaract members connect with other young leaders, they can take advantage of all Rotary has to offer, including scholarships and peace fellowships, RYLA events, and friendship exchanges or vocational training teams. There is no charge to attend meetings.

"Thanks for all your support!",  Mark Gasner, Rotaract Club of Edina President 2019-2020

In Review - October 24 Meeting
The October 24th meeting was our Vocational Day at Edina High School. Here are fellow rotarians enjoying lunch.

President Josh Sprague opened the meeting taking place as the Vocational Day at the Edina High School, praising the “Number Club in the Universe” and greeting guest Gene Andersen. Josh then told us that this day was the World’s Polio Day and reminded us about the contribution of Rotary to help reach the goal of a polio-free world.
