The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Edina Mayor Jim Hovland as program speaker at the Thursday, May 11, meeting. Mayor Hovland is also a member of the Edina Morningside Rotary Club.

 

New member Heather Edelson will be officially inducted into the club at the meeting. And Rotarian Jen Tregarthen will give her classification talk.

 

 

The Rotary Club of Edina will hold a Vocational Day meeting this Thursday, May 18, at Grandview Tire & Auto–Cahill, 5415 70th St. W., Edina. Check in at the meeting will begin at 11:45 a.m., and the meeting will end promptly at 1:30 p.m. Lunch and beverages will be provided. 

 

Our club holds vocational meetings annually to highlight a vocation and/or business in our community. Grandview Tire & Auto is owned by Rotarian Tim Murphy.

This smiling group of Edina Rotarians, family and friends, packed 23 boxes of meals for families in the Dominican Republic on Saturday, May 6. That is 828 meals going to those in the world who need help the most. Just another example of Rotary Serving Humanity, said President Ann Platt, one of the volunteers. A representative of Feed My Starving Children will attend an upcoming meeting to share the work they do with our club.

The Rotary Club of Edina will present the eighth-annual “Chrysanne Manoles Women In Leadership Award" at the May 25 meeting. Chrysanne Manoles was the first female member of our club, and is still active in Rotary today. In Manoles’ honor and to celebrate the work of women in the community, the Rotary Club of Edina established an annual women’s leadership award in 2008.

 

 

I would like to express my appreciation to the Rotary Club of Edina and its members for the many cards, memorials and expressions of sympathy in the recent passing of my mother. The club memorial gift was donated to the Salvation Army in her honor. Your kindness during this difficult time means a great deal to me. 

 

 

 

 

President-Elect San Asato ran the meeting May 4, where the program speaker was Dr. David Odde from the University of Minnesota's Biochemical Engineering Department. Rotary Youth Exchange student Claudio Araya Huerta gave his country talk, telling us about Chile. Our final two Edina High School student visitors told us a bit about themselves and their plans for the fall. And a Edina Rotary Foundation grant was given to Oasis for Youth.
