Gene and Keidy Palusky are from Edina, MN. They are the founders/creators of the XTorch, a solar powered device that works as a flashlight, lantern and cell phone charger. Lack of light is a common problem in developing countries. Keidy experienced the issue first hand growing up in the Dominican Republic and while she and Gene were helping children in Equatorial Guinea, Africa. Now their life passion is to get an XTorch into the hands of energy-poor children and advocate the humanitarian benefits of a solar-rechargeable light.

The foundation of the Rotary Club of Edina recently awarded a grant of $3,000 to Edina Fire Department.
The Edina Fire Department used the grant to purchase an EleGARD, a device that is part of paramedics’ bundle to care to help increase positive outcomes after sudden cardiac arrest by decreasing intracranial pressure while increasing cerebral and coronary perfusion. This results in fewer neurological issues in survivors. With the Edina Rotary Foundation donation, the Edina Fire Department now has an EleGARD on each of its ambulances. Past President, Josh Sprague and Susan Stiles were featured in the August 4 SunCurrent story. In part, an 8-year-old girl likely would have lost her life had it not been for two Edina Rotarians who stepped in to help. Saida, who lives in a remote village of Cobán, Guatemala, developed a large, protruding cyst on her face that had begun affecting her sight and ability to breathe. Josh and Susan decided they had to intervene and get Saida and her family the life-saving medical help they needed. The full story can be read by click HERE.
