For the first meeting of the new Rotary year, the Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Doug Baker, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Ecolab Inc., as the program speaker. Baker will speak at the Thursday, July 7, meeting about "Water Scarcity: A Report from the Front."
 
Bjorn Freudenthal will give his classification talk at the meeting.
 
Baker joined Ecolab in 1989, following seven years in brand management at Procter & Gamble. At Ecolab, he held a number of marketing and general management roles in the United States and Europe before becoming president and chief executive officer in July 2004. In May 2006, Baker added chairman of the board to his duties.

In addition to his Ecolab responsibilities, Baker serves on the board of directors of Target Corporation and U.S. Bancorp. He is involved in a number of community initiatives in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. Baker is trustee emeritus of the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation and a member of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP).
 
Baker received a bachelor’s degree in English from College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and serves on the college’s board of trustees. 
 
The Rotary Club of Edina meets at 12:15 p.m. Thursdays at the Edina Country Club. All are welcome. Cost for lunch and the program is $20 for adults, $12 for children.
