The Rotary Club of Edina will welcome Dr. Michael Howell as the program speaker at the Thursday, Aug. 18, meeting. He will speak about "Performance Enhancing Sleep."

Dr. Howell is the division head of Sleep Medicine, Department of Neurology, at the University of Minnesota, as well as the medical director at the Fairview Sleep Center in Edina. He is also the program director at the Clinical Sleep Medicine Fellowship and co-founder and CEO of the Sleep and Performance Institute.

He has been fascinated by the link between sleep and human performance. Recent research has clearly demonstrated that optimizing sleep improves brain function. Howell helped found the Sleep and Performance Institute (SPI) in order to provide sleep training to high-performance, professional and Olympic, athletes. More recently, SPI has expanded into large-group sleep wellness and risk reduction programs in order to help organizations: improve productivity, decrease illnesses, and better their environments by helping all team members sleep better.

New members Brandon Azbill and Jim Platt will be officially inducted into the club at the meeting.

The Rotary Club of Edina meets at the Edina Country Club at 12:15 p.m. Thursdays. Cost for lunch and the program is $20 for adults and $12 for kids. The club accepts cash, check or credit card payment at the door. Payees by credit card are charged an additional $1 per meal. Everyone is welcome!
