The Rotaract Club of Edina will host two local authors at the Wednesday, Dec. 12, meeting. Colton Witte and Sean Bloomfield will speak about their book, "Adventure North." The two Chaska High School graduates canoed 2,200 miles up the Minnesota River to Hudson Bay when they were teenagers.

The club will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Lunds & Byerly's in the 50th and France area of Edina. Rotarians are welcome at this special gathering!

There are 10,904 Rotaract Clubs in the world consisting of 250,792 members in 184 countries.  There is only one Rotaract Club in District 5950.  Plenty of room for growth! Starting a Rotaract Club is one of five of our clubs visioning goals. It also is Rotary International President Barry Rassin’s goal this year is to expand Rotaract globally and strengthen the transition from Rotaract into Rotary.

Rotaract brings together adults ages 18 to 30 to take action in their communities, develop their leadership and professional skills, and have fun. The Rotary Clubs of Edina and Edina Morningside are sponsoring the new Rotaract Club of Edina, but Rotaract members will manage its club independently.

As Rotaract members connect with other young leaders, they can take advantage of all Rotary has to offer, including scholarships and peace fellowships, RYLA events, and friendship exchanges or vocational training teams.

There is no charge to attend meetings. Eventually, the Rotaract Club of Edina may charge its members nominal annual dues.

“Rotaract is our future – our AAA team,” said Sam Thompson, an officer of the Rotary Club of Edina and one of the organizers of the new Rotaract club. “We are committed to the current Rotary International President’s goal of expanding Rotaract globally and strengthening the transition from Rotaract into Rotary. Today’s Rotaract members are tomorrow’s Rotarians.”

Mark Gasner is the first Edina Rotaract President. Nash Faulk is President-Elect. Members Jake Johnson and Scott Hawkins have agreed to be on our founding Rotaract board.  Please contact Sam Thompson at sthompson@transitionsib.com if you have friends, family, neighbors or work associates that would be interested in joining our Rotaract Club.
