The Rotary Club of Edina recently presented two $1,500 scholarships to deserving students at Edina High School.
The Rotary Club of Edina presents scholarships to graduating Edina seniors who exemplify the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self” and have participated in Rotary programs such as Camp Enterprise, Camp RYLA, fall ethics seminar, Vocational Ethics Day, youth exchange or the Interact Club of Edina. This year’s scholarships were presented to Amrutha Garimella and Camden Glass.

Garmiella has been involved in the Interact Club of Edina and participated in the Rotary Club of Edina’s Vocational Ethics Day and “Do the Right Thing” fall ethics seminar in 2019. She was also involved in orchestra, debate and speech, among other things. She plans to pursue a career in bioengineering.

“Rotary shares my passion for service, value for high ethical standards and love for the community,” Garimella wrote in her scholarship essay. “Through all the Rotary programs I have attended, these are the qualities that have been reinforced.”

A former Rotary Youth Exchange participant and host, Glass has frequently attended Rotary meetings and participated in Camp Enterprise in 2019. An athlete, he was involved in hockey, soccer, men’s volleyball and broomball in high school. He also participated in orchestra. Glass plans to study Geographical Information Systems in college.

“I understand that it is Rotary’s mission to solve problems in our world by connecting and supporting people,” Glass wrote in his scholarship essay. “My experience in Rotary has changed my perspective on different cultures, educated me about life in the business world, showed me the rewards of putting service above self and created eternal connections with people around the world.”

Since Edina High School was not able to hold its traditional scholarship breakfast this year, the scholarships were presented May 14 in an electronic meeting of the Rotary Club of Edina.
